that's a sad commentary on our times. Nice to see that the offshoring plague isn't just affecting the US tho. now I don't feel quite as depressed....

He's complaining about them off shoring to the US.

"Mmmmmm, individually wrapped cheese product slices, Gromit!"

I do hope they manage to keep it in the UK... it's part of the charm of the series.

I loved Wallace & Gromit, because I discovered it after I had been watching "Last of the Summer Wine" for a long time.

to be precise, he's implying that they're being outsourced to the US. it's never explicitly stated. he's actually somewhat unclear - I think he's saying that the UK is outsourcing to US run companies, who may or may not actually do the work in the US.

ah the joys of globalism! you can never really tell who's the 'third world' country anymore!

"Do we want to see Bob the Builder driving on the right-hand side of the road? That is what will happen if we don't watch out," he said.

I really don't get this logic. Just include a note to the new American animators: we brits drive on the left side of the road for some reason. Also we use an insane mixture of metric, standard, and completely nonsensical measurements. So instead of the cumbersome burden of saying "14 pounds" brits will just say one stone (unless referring to mutton in which case it's 8 pounds, which is of course entirely logical). Also trains are called lifts, crisps refer to the rear part of an automobile and no one in England is allowed to look the monarch in the eye, all characters must be depicted viewing her through a mirror as is tradition. And no word may start with the 'ha' sound or end with 'er', these sounds are highly offensive to decent subjects.

It's not that complicated.

Quite true. Unfortunately,it appears to be a forgone conclusion that said outsourcing will occur sooner rather than later.

American kids watch bob the builder, too. If Mattel's producing bob the builder, why should they cater to the smaller UK market? I'm not saying it'll happen, but Miles Bullough is, whoever that is.

I'm in the US and I'd hate for W&G or Shaun the Sheep to be put into an American company's hands. We'd hire crappy writers, dumb it down, add fart jokes/gross humor, and have the cheapest animators available put it together.

Then we'd scrap the whole thing when it didn't make eleventy brazillion percent in profits only to reboot it 5-10 years down the line with an edgier twist.

Isn't the Simpsons animation off-shored to South Korea?

I hate to paint with a broad brush, but nearly all high quality tv animation is produced in Korea. The few exceptions that come to mind are adult swim cartoons and south park, which isn't high quality at all.

There is genuinely a crisis. HIT, a beacon of excellence in children's animation in the UK and maker of Bob the Builder and Pingu, has just been bought by US company Mattel.

NUG! NUG!

Have you watched the second season of Shaun the Sheep? The fart and poop jokes area already a little out of hand.

On a completely different note, I didn't know they were making a Shaun the Sheep movie. That just may be my kid's first trip to the movie theater.

With Mattel taking over Hit, maybe we'll end up with some new Pingu episodes.

It explains the recent push on Pocoyo merchandise, though...

"Curse of the Were-Rabbit" made $56 million in the U.S., almost a third of its worldwide gross, so if you limeys don't appreciate us Yanks then give the money back you ungrateful bastards.

Please please relocate to the US. Hollywood, specifically. And then hire my husband as a miniature maker.

Not gonna happen though; they'll end up in Georgia or Louisiana or some other shiatty state which gives HUGE discounts to media productions...

911 is better than dialing 112 or 999. Also having red exit signs instead of the green running man exit signs.

Yeah I have and I don't like it. This is why I would have no faith in any claims that they'd keep the spirit and style of the original if put in US hands.

I was watching my then 3 yo nephew one day a while back, and id burned a bunch of shaun the sheep episodes to watch instead of cars or thomas for the 100th time. After the third episode or so, he turns around and says in that super serious way little kids get, "this is the greatest show ever". Kids got taste. Plus theres no dialog, so theres really not much to get sick of if the kid wants to watch it over and over and over and over.

Postman Pat has already moved to Ireland. The new creators promised not to make any noticeable changes but I'm not quite so sure.
