If he actually got effective therapy that worked, yeah, it kind of would be lovely. Nothing, not killing him, not locking him up for life, not fixing him and having him go on to be a productive member of society for however long he lives, will make what he did better in any way. But only one of those options has any positive output whatsoever. The other two are mere expedience. Maybe instead of bemoaning how 'soft on crime' society is, it'd be worth the effort to try to make the solutions actually work.
