Do the Democrats really want to be spawning little James O'Keefes? I hope not.

It would have been how hard to hand it back and say he doesn't agree with such rhetoric? He sure didn't seem bothered by it.

So following someone around videotaping their public appearances is just like misleadingly editing videos and pushing them out IOT push an agenda?

The guy's not on stage. I'm not expecting him to make some dramatic display.

Not the same. Similar. Waiting and watching for the moment you get some "gotcha" moment to exploit. This wasn't a Macaca moment. Allen walked right into that. If that guy hadn't been videotaping, someone else probably was and it would have come out all on its own. There's a difference between catching someone doing something dumb and hunting them down in the hopes they'll give you something to work with.

Seriously, the GOP does something outrageously stupid or downright unAmerican nearly by the minute now. Let's keep our focus on important things. I don't want to see the Democrats descend into Breitbartish behavior.

How about simply handing it back?

This guy has a history of asshole comments and actions. Nothing I've ever seen from him makes me think he disagrees with the image.

Not knowing him, I can only judge by what I see here. Sure, he could have handed it back. He could have also passed it around the circle. I'm just not going to get outraged over this. I already know the majority of Republicans irrationally and unfairly hate Obama.

The whole thing screams setup. Think about it. The guy hands him the cartoon the second the camera man walks arounf\d the corner. It's a lame attempt to act like that lame ass O'Keefe. Sure Rehberg is a total asshat. But this is no gotcha moment.

Yeah...my outrage o'meter isn't even pinging.

When someone makes an off color or racist joke you can 1) make a fuss or 2) just not associate with that person.

Now, I don't think this cartoon was racist, I think it was stupid. I guess you could make the stretch that Obama and Kadhaffi are both black so therefore racism, but I think the author is trying to compare Obama to an evil dictator.

So...its a stupid cartoon. I've seen worse. And unless this guy sent it around himself, I don't really care.

He wasn't "waving it around", and looked like he was just humoring the guy who gave it to him.

Considering this guy is a Republican, I'll assume there's many more valid reasons to criticize him, though...

Denny is a god awful human, and a terrible representative of the state of Montana.
The state has two very distinct cultures, east and west. West is fairly progressive, educated, "sub"urban.

The east is prairie country, filled with very nice but devotedly conservative people. I love them, but do not try to talk politics if you don't agree with them. I think of everything in MT east of the Rockies as West Dakota.

Denny appeals to their baser instincts, not their general giving and kind natures. He wins on their votes, with the conservative bastions from Billings.

To be fair, the "Macaca" comment was directed at a Democratic tracker, which is apparently what the guy falling Rehberg was as well. The fact that the dude was following him around all the time was what brought Allen's attention to him in first place. Still, you're right that this is a more intimate setting.

I agree that this is underwhelming, but as far as the question of ethics of this do we know if it was a like-minded constituent or someone working with the tracker who showed him the picture? That makes a big difference to me.

He's going after a Senate seat, both of which are held by Democrats in Montana. He must be destroyed.

So, I watched the video, and, sure, he's being "friendly", but I'd be more interested about the fact that he took a campaign donation check at the same time from the same person who apparently gave him the cartoon.

"Sure, your cartoon's offensive, but, hey, you have money, so I'll be happy to show it off if you hand me that check."

To you, perhaps. Portraying Obama as a just-executed dictator, to me, is mildly offensive. Watching this guy chuckle about it, show it off, take a check from the guy that gave it to him, and then claim he doesn't agree with the cartoon is slightly more offensive than the cartoon itself.

I don't think this cartoon was that big of a deal. Of course Republicans think Obama is the same as Kadaffhi, republicans are cro-mags...

To me, though the humorous part of all of this is not the guy and his cartoon or whatever, it's his staffers vociferous denial that he agrees with it. Of course he agrees with it, who cares?

They should have said "It's just a silly political cartoon, this is a non-story." To me, the fact that they are falling over themselves to disassociate with it is the funny part. Something about a lady and protesting too much...

2011-11-07 01:39:26 PM
I expect to see this kind of crap from the far right (not true Reps, just the extreme) - seriously Dems, don't do it, there is a reason (beyond policy) that so many people dislike the Tea Party.

The whole tear them down instead of doing something honorable to build yourself up is why the country is so messed up right now.

Silly Republican, only liberals are permitted to draw comparisons between dictators and American politicians, didn't you get the latest copy of "Rules that Don't Apply To Us"?

It looks like they're at some sort of sports bar, which makes me ask the question: who prints out random political cartoons and brings them to sports bars? Even your most backwards, head-up-the-ass and living in the past conservative knows how to use a smartphone; why wouldn't you just show him the picture on that?

No surprise you'd defend the guy - all republicans are angelic, pure as the driven snow victims to you.

You should just admit you worship all politicians with an (R) by their name and get it over with, instead of your usual make one post and run away like a coward schtick.

I just wish someone would point out exactly what Obama is doing that is so bad? He's borderline boring with how middle-of-the-road he is. You people are so f*cking stuck on your hatred of the other side that you refuse to even look as sensible offers from the other side.

I don't think his policies go far enough, yet they are good for the nation as a whole. Revenue increases and budget cuts. How was that so bad? Jesus. F*ck you people. You're the reason why we can't have a solvent country.

Let's have the GITMO debate again so you can say how unsafe our SuperMax prisons are. Terrists gon' rape ur daughters! Steal yer jorbs!

Seriously, you are a pack of petulant children. We decried Bush as a whole because his policies were destroying our country, not because he was a Republican. You need to realize that and move on.

The cartoon said, "We can do without Congress." Wait--I thought that was the right wing position. How many times have I heard a Republican congressman say, with no apparent irony, "The problem is these here rascals in Congress"--and of course Gaddabongo.
