I love asshat bus drivers. I have no problem at all being asshats right back to them. I will stand on the bus.. One foot on bus, one foot off and talk to them and tell them how big of assholes they are in front of all the other riders.

None of these changes that the bus drivers stopped the bus, got up, walked into the back, and verbally attacked a passenger. This union rep sounds like a 3 year old trying to get out of trouble.

definitely, d-d-definitely not a nice transit person, not like here in Denver, anyway. I know of one guy out of the hundreds of drivers who is a dick about his job. He gets put on LOA all the time for preaching to passengers.

funny... I wonder if it's the same driver that many many (I mean decades ago) years ago physically forced me out of the bus because I was asking him directions to where I needed to go.

I was quite calm and speaking in a proper manner, asked questions because it was part of the city I didn't know, proper language, just sitting in the front as I didn't want to miss my stop and was asking him to please indicate where I should be getting off.. overall I was pretty much quiet most of the ride.

Then out of the blue, he starts yelling at me that he's no driving service and that it's my freaking problem to know where to get off, etc.

When I tried to talk to calm him down, all good, he stopped the bus and grabs me in a headlock and forces me out. I didn't resist as I had no clue at all what the hell was going on, nor was looking for trouble in any way.

I called and reported him, and when they called back, they informed me that he had been taken off the bus routes, and that I wasn't the only one that called about him doing something like this.

I used to know someone that worked there (OC) and they were telling me that breakdowns were very common. The rotation of employees was actually much higher than you'd believe, and many would end up being recommended going to shrinks.... about 20-some years, same place (OC).. mechanic snapped and started shooting people. So it's not just the drivers.

It's a question that there's three general types of drivers...either you start young and burn out fairly fast, either you see it as a job, learn to deal with the good and bad passengers, or you do your job day after day until you eventually snap.

No, a professional position is one that requires extensive specialized training and has things like a professional code of ethics and, usually, a board that certifies and enforces that ethical code.

Things like doctors, lawyers, teachers, architects, etc. Those are professionals. A guy with a commercial driver's license isn't anywhere close to that level of qualification. I'm not attacking the bus driver for being a "lowly bus driver" or something, here, I'm just taking issue with labelling everyone in every job a "professional". They're not.

A bus driver is no more a "professional" than a bartender, or a pizza delivery guy, or a private eye. They all have licensing required for their jobs, too. That doesn't make them "professionals". It means they're employed. Not the same thing.

I'm not defending the driver. I in fact specifically said I wasn't trying to excuse his actions. I'm saying it's not a professional position, so he doesn't have a professional code of ethics to abide by, and I'm saying this isn't newsworthy.

I agree the driver's an asshat and taking footage of it is fine, and I wouldn't have complained if it popped up on Youtube, I just think reporters have better things to spend time on than this kind of stupid bullshiat.

With something like a 1TB or 2TB drive, at a decent quality, they'd be able to record in at least a week's worth with a multiple angle video (front and back cameras/ split screen). If anything is going on, it would be easy to review the situation.

And it would work for both sides... both for the passengers and the drivers... any problem/complaints could easily be checked into.

It would have people behaving much better, knowing that they are being recorded.

I haven't taken a bus in over 10 years, so I'm glad to hear that they are doing it (even if limited).

For me, my experience with taking the bus was from necessity (no car at the time), I've had great drivers that were fun to talk to, and there's been many asshats that I couldn't understand how the hell they had the job in the first place.

As far as calling for assistance, seen it a few times, but I've also seen a driver that was scared shiatless of his "regulars" (schoolkids) , so no matter how nasty they were, he put up with turning a blind eye...

When I talked to him about these kids they were seriously harassing a guy who had downs, his reply was that he couldn't do anything as if he called it in, these kids would still be taking the bus the next day and he was afraid of what they'd do to him.

I did what I could... but I was limited to telling the idiots to smarten up and grow the hell up, placing myself between them and their target. I made calls, etc. and these kids continued to be arses, but I made sure that I'd meet all their threats with a serious ass-whooping would they ever try anything physical.

It was pretty rough to see a guy with down-syndrome that was minding his business, going to work every day being harassed like this, to the point that he cried, asking me to beat the shiat out of them... to which... I could only reply that I can't... the way the law is, unless they start first and I "defend", I'd be the "guilty" one.

I ended up moving and not taking that bus anymore, so I simply hoped that through the calls I made, something was eventually done.

Threats of bodily harm are a crime - recording the event to document the occurance should be considered evidence - and protected by law. Stress, overwork, etc. does not justify potential violence.

I can't remember the last time I was on any type of bus (school, public transit) that didn't have some type of recording device on it. Whether said device was functional is another story.

The fark it isn't. As a passenger, you have a responsibility to act like a civilized adult while in public. If you can't manage this, you should be bodily thrown from the bus. It would make public transit far more appealing to the rest of us.
