1. Teenagers are horny
2. They haven't had enough time to learn "appropriate" ways to express it

Interesting tag should be changed to Obvious

48 percent of students in grades 7-12 experienced some form of sexual harassment in person or electronically via texting, email and social media

In these tough economic times, gym class has to go.

Obvious tag broken? Middle schoolers are animals.

I don't always sexually harass women, but when I do, they're in 7th to 12th grade.

Plus there aren't any repercussions for their behavior until it gets particularly flagrant either. Male teens harass female teachers too, to a limited extent, but it doesn't get reported much because administration usually doesn't do anything about it.

There was an incident around here a few years ago where a male student shoved a female student's face into his crotch in the middle of science class, and the athletic director tried to actively cover it up, as the boy was one of the football stars. It finally resulted in criminal charges against the athletic director for the cover up of sexual abuse.

So going around middle school and high school and asking all the girls, "What's up sweet t*ts?" was wrong?????

I don't really care if this dude groped a woman or three back in his CEO days, Id never vote for him, but the way he's handling it is really damaging his already comical campaign. The backpeddling lies, now the flat out refusal to speak about it. Everyones scrutinizing him right now, gotta be transparent as possible.

Oh well, guess the pubtards wont be getting that fence that BBQs dirty Mexuhcans after all.

Let's see... touched on the ass, chest, bra straps popped, shirt pulled out and looked straight down at my chest, after chewing on a pen I got a graphic reenactment of a blow job and I seem to recall a tale about one talented guy who could undo your bra while patting you on the back... but that was probably just a fantasy.

There's real sexual harassment, and then there's the modern belief that anytime anything sexual is said, in any context, it's harassment. Crap like this makes anything serious harder to care about or believe.

Maybe all females should wear a burka, it would solve this problem.

That sounds very much like my 6th grade experience. Then I got into compulsive eating and no one bothered me again.

Man, if it wasn't for the sexual harassment in high school; never would have had the opportunities to mess around like I did.

2011-11-07 09:47:51 AM
it's not harassment. it's boys who are trying to figure out what is under those clothes that make his wing wang dribble and why his pits stink even if he showers once a week.
It's not harassment. it's girls trying to figure out why boys are so clumsy when around them but so agile on a sports field and at pick-locking bras.
CSB;
When I was in 7th grade PE class a girls saw a bulge in my shorts and grabbed it with a smirk and said " look at this girls". I had NO IDEA what was going on and why she was interested in my handkerchief i tucked in my jock strap/shorts since it was hay fever season. DING DING DING.
She left school in the 9th grade with a baby in the oven. not mine.she was so so on the looks even then.

Ok time to survey all the Farketts on here?

1.Were you sexually harrassed at school?
2.Did is cause you some kind of pain?
3.Does it affect you now or has it affected you after you left school?

Was probably the biggest offender when I was in school but mine was more innuendo would let their mind fill in the blank.

eas81: 1.Were you sexually harrassed at school?

1. Yes. I was groped, the butt of many a sexual joke, and even held up against a wall and fondled because a bunch of boys wanted to know if "they were real". It's hard being the tallest and most over developed kid in your 5th grade class. Also, the teachers only had private conversations with boys in the hallway and let them come back into class. My mom thought I was making some of it up or blowing little things out proportion.

2. I became a compulsive eater at 12 years old mostly due for comfort issues. Food wasn't fetishized or taboo in my house so I went against the typical grain for over eaters and it wasn't until high school when a counselor told me it was likely stress eating linked to my harassment and abuse from class mates.

3. I overcompensated later in life and became a self loathing slut in college. You know... one of the fat types. The worst types. Yay self esteem issues.

It's a wonder I didn't off myself in some intentional or unintentional way.

Yes, because exploring your own sexuality means that you're a slut and must now receive any and all verbal and physical advances with equal fervor.

When did "exploring your sexuality" come to include producing and distributing porn, exactly?

I'm hard pressed to take too seriously complaints about "unwanted attention" from folks going out of their way - in deed and in dress - to attract as much attention as possible.

Once you say "HEY LOOK AT MEEEEE!!!!" you don't get to decide who looks, etc.

That's not true. I know a couple girls who wear revealing clothing and love the looks and comments they get from attractive men.

When the fat, bald, sweaty guy does it though, it's sexual harassment.

It doesn't help that the idea that teenage boys are so horny all the time that they can't be expected to be polite or treat others with respect is reinforced so often.

The "boys will be boys" mentality is pretty harmful when it comes to dealing with sexual harassment.

Ugh. What a gross mindset.

These kids are pathetic. My kindergarten, middleschool, and highschool were far worse than anything described. It reads like the expect to live in some bubble where no one says or does anything that makes them feel bad.

Yes, but I draw the line at cat calling ... seriously, when the fark did THAT become 'sexual harassment??? I get the touching, I get the unwelcome advances after a polite go away, I get the borderline rape, but seriously, I want to know when exactly the feminist movement got it in their heads that a cat call is now harassment?

... and I'm a feminist!

seadoo2006: but seriously, I want to know when exactly the feminist movement got it in their heads that a cat call is now harassment?

There's a spectrum. I don't think catcalling should be grounds for filing a complaint against the person, but I do think it's incredibly rude and obnoxious and it does make me feel uncomfortable. I'd rather be able to go about my business and enjoy my day to day life without some guy I don't know and have no desire to interact with deciding that not only is he going to check out my ass, he's going to make damn sure I know he's doing it.

/shrug teenagers are hornballs without fully developed emotional reasoning capacities and with immature self-concepts. They are trying to figure out who they are, and how they fit in with other people around them. Sex is a BIG part of that. That applies to both sexes; the fact that there are gendered rules for how that behaviour expresses itself does not mean its not done by both sexes.

The "boys will be boys" mindset comes from the fact that if you don't actively try to control them, a teenage boy will do various sorts of things to try and get teenage girls to have sex with him, some of them stupid, some of them not, some of them agressive or abusive, some of them not. The way that behaviour expresses depends on the individual and his social context. The trick is, teenage girls will engage in analogous behaviours intended to attract the boys left to their own devices. It's just that our society tends to be more controlling towards the girls while promoting a narrative that girls are somehow innocent or pure compared to boys.

It's a crock. In early times, a woman was almost always a mother by the time she was 15, because in the absence of social pressures otherwise, most girls are just as interested in the boys as the boys are interested in the girls.

The problem is not that teenagers are sexually agressive towards each other, it's that the limits society places are poorly and unevenly enforced, and that there are double standards of what is acceptable in both directions.
