Suri, how can I hit a small thermal exhaust port, located right before the main port?

Apple's iPhone isn't the only smartphone to provide visual feedback by popping up an enlarged version of the character pressed

But putting Apple in the headline gets more clicks, so we'll gloss over this point.

Is this a Top Gear reference? Even if not, I can certainly hear Jezzer saying something like that.

Pointless software. If I already have a video of them typing I can just LOOK at the video and see what they are typing.

Was at Disney World a few weeks back -- saw several folks taking pictures and videos with their iPods, holding them high overhead.

Looked awkward...

FTFA The researchers also admit that alternative text-entry techniques, such as Swype, will confound the recognition, but those are only used by a minority.

Yay being in the minority. Though having used it before, I will literally never go back to an onscreen keyboard that doesn't have swyping ability. It doesn't need to be Swype(tm) probably, but Swype is way better than HTC Trace, that's for sure.

Also, why do so many people use a crappy built in keyboard when there are like 3 or 4 free keyboards on the market that are WAY better, and another 5 if you pay or go beta.

I'd love to see what the researchers do against non-keyboard keyboards like 8pen (new window).

\Huh... 8pen was free last I looked, also looks to have been enhanced a lot since I last tried it.

Hah -- I meant they were using iPADs and it looked awkward.

iPods ... not so much.

8pen was interesting. Had it on my droid for a while, never really got faster than snails pace with it but my buddy who really forced himself to use/learn it over a week or so is blazing fast with it.

Agree that Swype-like stuff is great though. It came loaded on my droid x and I use "Flex T9" now which has a few input modes including something like swype. I think i got it off the Amazon store for free one of their free app days but it's only a few bucks, I don't know if i could go back to a tap-touch keyboard without some awkwardness.

Me too!

In fact, I thought it was going to be the name of a Mary Poppins-inspired porno.
