You know, as much as I think Twilight is just...awful, I can't agree with you as pegging the books as the demise of Western Culture. I mean, in the end it got HOW many people to actually read a novel? Nor can I hate on the movie that much. Yes, I think the movies are also awful but how many bad movies have we all experienced?

No, if you are going to peg something as the downfall of civilization related to Twilight, it would have to be the obsession people have with it. Even then I would just as soon peg any reality TV as far worse than a few bad movies and a book series (laced with a sprinkling of mormon preaching) geared to the 12-18 year old demographic.
