I'm sure a lot people in Cincinnati feel the same about 95% of the time, but... Holy shiat the Bengals are currently the #1 seed in the AFC!

I repeat, THE BENGALS ARE CURRENTLY THE #1 SEED IN THE AFC.

Sure, it's really only because of an arbitrary tiebreaker, and they've done it by beating some of the worst teams in the league. But they played the 49ers to a close finish and beat the Bills. They're winning on the west coast, which they never do, and they've won 5 in a row for the first time since 1988. They're winning close games, they aren't making mistakes (or Bungles, as they are often described), and they're doing with a rookie quarterback no less.

But here comes the tough part. They play the Steelers and their rape machine two times in the next 4 games, and sandwiched in between is a game against the Ravens. Is Andy Dalton for real? Are the Bengals a young team building a truly successful foundation for next year, when they have multiple first round draft picks, and their quarterback will have a full season under his belt? We just might find out in the next month if the clouds are destined to finally break in Cincinnati, or if they will continue to flounder in the shiatty asshole of the NFL with the Cleveland Browns.

Had the girlfriend ask yesterday why I drop so much on the Sunday Ticket just so I can yell at the tv every Sunday. Her point was that surely there were other channels that could make me yell just as much that are part of the basic package.

Sadly she's wrong. There is no other channel in existence that raises my ire quite like whatever channel the Browns are on.

Have you ever watched a Browns game?

Seriously, you have no idea how bad it is here. I had this same argument with a Bears fan from Chicago. He couldn't seem to grasp the concept that even though the Bears are bad; at least they're watchable, and you can still be prideful of the fact you ARE a Bears fan.

That's cause most Bears fans over-react. Fact is the Bears have been a decent team for the most part the last 10 years. I think fans here expect us to win every week and go to the Superbowl every year.

Also Minny doesn't belong in this argument because the last few years they had been contenders and were a Brett Favre pick away from the Superbowl.

The Browns have been no where close to either of these teams, so fans from Chicago and Minny really have nothing on Cleveland fans. My heart goes out to you guys. Although, I can relate on one note:

I don't mind that the Browns are bad. I really don't. Teams can be bad.

I hate 2 things about this situation.

1. Let's say the Browns never move. Model gets an expansion team in Baltimore, the Browns stay here.
Baltimore would be suffering this long, and the Browns would have won a Superbowl, Pitstain fans would still consider this a rivalry.

2. I hate that team that were worse than us are now better than us. Lions, Bengals, Oakland, Saints, Jets, etc.
Parity is supposed to mean that anyone can win any week, and you're never more than a draft away from being good. Someone on the radio mentioned that there are only 2 1st rounders starting for the Browns, and that 70% of our draft picks are watching games on TV.

These are the facts that keep me up at night.

Homer Nixon: Sigh. Makes me glad I'm an out-of-market Browns fan so I don't have to actually watch the debacles week after week.

Get DirectTV and then the NFL Package, and you too can become a masochist like the rest of us Browns' fans. Both my wife and I have gotten to the point where we're making fun of the team every time a tackle is missed, or Colt throws an INT, or one of the completely inconcievable plays that only the Browns manage to accomplish.

I still recall the Bears game they lost after two successful onside kicks by Chicago, two TD's in the last 2 minutes, and a made FG in overtime. Or the day Dewayne Rudd rips his helmet off while celebrating what he thought was a game ending sack, only to realize the QB didn't hit the ground and instead was running downfield, and the penalty for taking off your helmet was 15 yards and an untimed play at the game's end that allowed KC to win the game...

/no other team has this level of incompetence

No, no, the reason you get Sunday Ticket is so that you can change to a better game when the Browns go down two scores before their second snap.

/At least, if you're in Cleveland. Maybe for you it's different.

Hillis WAS the Cleveland Browns last year. Every single game they won was because of him. Now that he's completely out of the mix, yeah, some things are going to appear stagnate. That said, im not sure i want him back, either. He has a lot of proving himself this season from the lost time, but all is not lost.

We have a lot of draft picks next season due to the Atlanta trade.

Coach Shurmur is not a 'rah-rah' type of guy, and there's no rule to say he is supposed to be. Its a new system under a new coach, and there was no preseason. I think we're ahead of where we were last season.

Most of all, the Browns need some more playmakers.

I keep saying, and will continue to say, that it's a product of the average Browns' fan mentality. It's like they want a 4-12 team every year. From cheering a cut-rate backup going into a game while the starter lies injured on the field, to wanting the head coach fired from their first loss, to all the innuendo that the CPD hacks dig up that the fans believe...I hear some Browns fans wanting to give up now. No, keep watching. This is what you wanted, and by God, you're gonna get it.

No one wants a 4-12 team. That is just a stupid thing to say. The problem with this team is ownership. We have had a parade of general managers, team presidents, coaches and quarterbacks come through this city since the Browns returned. What is the consistent factor? Ownership.

Al Lerner did a decent job the few years he owned the team (our only playoff appearance, in 2002, was a team built on his watch), but his son Randy could not care less about running this team. He just writes checks, has someone else handle the football team and goes to England to watch his soccer club. He is the problem.

Unless you have a dedicated owner, the organization will lack a vision. That sounds like business hooey that has no place in football, but a good organizational leadership would not allow the Hillis situation to deteriorate like it has. Good leadership would not hire failure after failure to oversee the team and botch drafts. The best thing that could happen to the Browns is for Randy Lerner to sell the team to someone local. He needs to go.

The problem is not that they want a 4-12 team, it's just that Browns fans are so impatient that they demand the ownership change everything constantly, forcing ownership to change everything so often that no consistency can be established which leads to shiatty football. Hell, there were people on this site calling for Shumur's resignation before he even coached a game. Sure, Lerner is partially to blame and the buck stops with him, but he is changing coaches so often because the fans demand it.

The best thing that could happen to the Browns is for Randy Lerner to sell the team to someone local. He needs to go.

I saw that this morning and was confused. I thought at first that maybe it's just Foster and Johnson were chewing up the clock, but they're actually pretty legit by most measures. I guess Johnathan Joseph really made a difference.
