I'm just going to presume the author's first language isn't English.

Probably a decent guess. I hope.

I'm sure the people who were robbed don't look at him as a hero. But hey, they were probably rich assholes, and they don't have any rights, amiright?

IIRC, it was Gubment money, so it wasn't going to do anything important anyway.

I thought he said he would have given back everything to start again and just live a simple, normal life instead. That's in the documentary I watched when tapes of interviews he did whilst in Brazil were heard for the first time in decades.

But hey, what the fark do I know when a research free, cock-sucking article managed to get published on the internetz and I can only biatch about it on a news aggregate website.

Came here to say pretty much this. The criminal is a cool guy until he's victimizing you. Then maybe no so cool, eh?

Hope this guy isn't British, or else it's proof the English can't speak their own language any more.

I still don't understand why he went back. Health care in Brazil is good and cheap. I understand missing home but not so much to give up 8 years of life when you don't have much left

2011-11-06 09:12:19 PM
it takes 15 people to rob a train? I suppose that is logistically reasonable, but the payoff for what they expected to be on the train sure doesn't seem worth having to live on the run in Brazil. and then to find out he had regrets even though the payout was substantially more makes it even more puzzling.

Robbers that pull famous heists quite often become folk heroes.

I was kind of assuming that the article was written in Brazil and we were getting the second-hand English translation from a kind-of-bilingual Portuguese speaker. Is that not the case?

Because if it's a native English speaker writing that, yeah, that's a bit sad.

He's been on my Dead Pool list for years and is fast becoming the Zsa Zsa Gabor of the Man Who Wouldn't Farkin' Die.

The guy should never have been let out, not until he was at death's door. He enjoyed the best years of his life as a free man, then returned at an age that he knew he would get compassionate early release, serving 9 years of his remaining 28 year sentence.

And no, while The Sun seemed to view him as a folk hero (yet on every other occasion complain that the government are too soft on crime), lots of people in the UK don't. Even if you don't care about the money (which was individuals money, not rich people's), the train driver was permanently injured in the attack.

2011-11-07 07:53:10 AM
Ronnie Biggs should be taken out and shot in the head.

I always wonder, why is it that people seem to think prisoners should be let out when they are going to die?
