I would think that in today's over regulated ncaa, that it would be difficult to pull some kid out of a frat house to kick. That's a good story though, good for that kid.

You have GOT to be farking kidding me.

I think he actually was a member of the team. They referred to him as a walk-on. Practice squad only maybe.

He must have already been cleared by the NCAA.

Just wondering--when was the NCAA not overregulated? In the mid-80s, I had a choice between a golf scholarship and an academic one. I took the academic scholarship because (a) it could be used anywhere, (b) I figured I had to go to class anyway, and (c) I didn't want to have to deal with the NCAA.

I mean, how can I get the college experience if I'm being tested for drugs?

Would have been a better story if he was drunk

that kid is living the dream. i like the fact that TFA says, "Just get him here and we'll do a Breathalyzer. Fortunately, he didn't have anything bad." what does "anything bad" mean?

Fat, drunk and kicking field goals is no way to go through college, son.

/actually it is

In the press conference video he talks about his role in practice and how his kicks usually don't get observed by the coaching staff. He's the third string kicker and they usually don't dress for the game.

No they don't usually dress, travel or are on the sidelines for games. Their job is to procure drugs and sluts for the after party.

seems right... he must have had some previous ability to kick not to mention cleared to play. It would be difficult to even get a soccer player and say hey kick this through there without some prep work...

Why didn't Nick Saban think of this? Another coaching blunder by Nick in a big game. Should have called the frat house.

Yes and No. It is quite easy to "make the transition" from what I've seen. My ten year old son plays competitive soccer and football. In our league, following a touchdown a run in from 3 yards out gets you one point. Kicking the ball through the uprights from 9 yards out get you two points (ball is spotted on the 3, but after the hike, it is actually kicked from the 9). Virtually no team in our division even attempts them @ this age because the kids don't have the leg. My son was asked to try and within 10 - 20 attempts, was putting them up and over fairly consistency. Went 2-for-2 in his first two attempts in a real game. So, I think for some soccer players they are able to make the transition quite well.

Do you really have to be told why your ten year old soon is not an adequate comparison to kicking in college?

Check out this article, hbk is absolutely right: Arizona's punter was the only black kicker at the Div. I level last year, and the Browns punter is the only one at the NFL level.

/didn't know that Roby had passed away
//he could have teamed up with Jason Sehorn as the old school, by the book street cop to Sehorn's cocky pretty boy detective

I wasn't trying to compare youth football vs. College football, but simply trying to make the point that for some soccer players (age be damned) it is easy to take a soccer style kick and convert it to a field goal style of kick. A point you apparently missed in my original comment
