No it doesn't. The economy is to blame. It is hard for them to find jobs too.

2011-11-06 12:11:42 PM
My guess is that the people who would have come to America to work have decided that they'd be better off in Mexico these days for a number of reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if Mexico is experiencing a wave of returnees from America right now. That probably includes those who had legalized their status but are made to feel unwelcome.

Who knows? Maybe Americans will start to follow them, and Mexico will decide to build an electrified fence to keep us out. Now THAT would be funny.

Not only that, but the objections to the law had nothing to do with its efficacy.

Heh. More research. Mexico had an unemployment rate of 4.9% as of the end of July this year, and in America it's more like 9.4%.

I'm reading the constitution of Mexico now, and finding out more about their social policies. It's enlightening, in the sense that their laws seem to be more enlightened in some respects than ours. I like the fact that the president of their country has to go back to being a private citizen when their term is done. Some of them have even had to go into hiding if they were particularly bad. They don't get lifetime secret service protection.

Why does that prove the law is working?

Article is a solid block of rationalized derp.

"Ladies and gentlemen, know that you are engaged in a historic enterprise here," Bersin told the agents. The drop in arrests, he said, shows that illegal immigrants "are not coming through here anymore, and when they do, they are getting apprehended."

I'm catching fewer fish than ever, so I must be catching all of them!

One advantage of having a stupid government is that they don't waste a lot of time thinking things through.

I thought it was because people are immigrating at 10 year lows do to drought and lack of jobs. But what ever Arizona if you think that magic stick is keeping the brown folk away keep waving it.

FTA:

The Obama administration has deployed National Guard troops and has been adding new fencing, technology and agents along the border to make it more difficult to cross illegally. They also have been beefing up immigration enforcement. In fiscal 2011, deportations were at an all-time high.

It's the actions of the Obama administration that have resulted in less illegal immigrants crossing the border, not Arizona's law that subjects some U.S. citizens to harassment simply because they're brown-skinned.

The good part of the AZ law is the part that gets employers fined and possibly jailed if they knowingly employ illegals.

nobody said it wouldn't work. that's not the point.

the problem is, it makes reasonable suspicion for being illegal things like: having brown skin, having an accent, speaking spanish, and having a last name like garcia.

most people aren't opposed to cracking down on illegal immigration. it is, after all, illegal. the problem is, SB1070 will affect american citizens who happen to have brown skin, etc.

you see, derpmitter - THERE ARE ACTUAL AMERICAN CITIZENS WITH BROWN SKIN AND LAST NAMES LIKE 'GARCIA' AND 'JIMENEZ.'

Pretty much this. When unemployment is high both places, might as well stay home with the rest of your family.

Brainwash: I don't care if they work here, but make them pay farking taxes so they don't have an unfair competitive advantage over Americans that need work.

They likely do pay taxes. Sales taxes, property taxes, etc. And most of them make a low enough wage that they'd get all income taxes they paid right back and then some, so... actually, if they filed for tax returns, they would be taking more out than they were paying in.

Or that Mexicans are crossing the border elsewhere other than near Nogales, like closer to Yuma, or other states like New Mexico or California. Here in SoCal, we're finding more illegals crossing via the Pacific Ocean on boats, Cuban-refugee style.

This.
That and if they're going to start "paying taxes" in the sense that he's talking about they better become legalized American citizens in return.

Its pretty much impossible for an American to get citizenship in Mexico as it is. And if you don't come with money, you'll probably be shown to the border eventually anyways.

2011-11-06 05:11:22 PM
What most people do not realize is that brown people are usually their own worst enemy.

1. A nice Mexican fellow called a "coyote" took their life savings to pack them up into a truck and smuggle them in. Or at least put them towards a hole in the fence.
2. Then they get to the promised land, they meet a hispanic person is is a legal citizen, who hires them under the table for a below average wage, and who treats them like indentured serfs while renting them space to live in a single wide with a hole in the roof.
3. They shop at out of the way tiendas to keep on the DL and are charged exorbitant prices for their goods since they are too scared to walmart.

All for 40 tortillas and an old pick up truck.

"In other news, arrests of illegal immigrants in New Mexico and California skyrocketed by 195% in the last six months, despite heavy policing. Officials are at a loss to explain this mysterious leap in arrests."

Just kidding, but that would be funny.

If they're low-income, then "paying taxes" means they'll file a return (for free) via H&R Block and end up with thousands of bucks in various credits (e.g., crotch-fruit credits, EITC, etc.) that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten if they hadn't "paid taxes."

A completely worthless judiciary makes that all worth a large pile of shait. Precedent doesn't exist. Lower courts aren't bound by higher rulings, and courts aren't bound by prior ones. That enables corruption and doesn't exactly foster a rule of law that can ever be constantly enforced.

Their laws aren't worth the paper they're printed on. No matter how good the protections are on paper (and I'm not sure everything you've mentioned is really good- Presidents not getting protection when they might actually have to fear for their lives is one I'm not too crazy about), if they're not actually enforced, big whoop. The soviet constitution was the same way. You have to actually build the institution, you can't just toss it on paper and hope it sticks.

A shiat load of illegals do pay taxes. Their taxes are taken out by employers, and tons of them use ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) to pay both state and federal taxes. The IRS doesn't care about immigration status- they just want the money, so the accept returns with ITINs in lieu of social security numbers. The thing is, a lot of illegals have taxes taken out and don't get their money back.

They aren't bigots, they are law abiding citizens. If those damn Mexicans would just stay on their side of the border and stop breaking the laws there would be much less of a problem and we wouldn't be talking about this here.

Lots of cotton. And lots of agriculture (all that sunshine means you can grow food year-round in Arizona...need a shiatload of irrigation to do it--thanks, Colorado River!--but it's done). And ranching, too.

\Go upstairs and ask your mom about "Pima cotton."
\\Nice stuff, very soft.
\\\Grown in Pima County, Arizona.
