You even get a nice letter when it's been harpooned by the Japanese. Fake blood splatter and everything.

Forty dollars of beer money for a whale picture. No thanks.

I'm not adopting anything that is potentially on the menu.

Alternatively, you could donate to a children's hospital or donate canned goods to a food pantry.

The whales will do fine on their own.

Uncle Tractor: Buy land on the Moon, Mars or Venus. It's official! Makes a perfect gift for a loved one, or simply a wise investment for the future! (new window)

What kind of scam are they trying to pull? This (new window) is the actual place to buy lunar real estate.

Seriously though, a much better gift is a small plot of land on the Isle of Islay (new window). The land itself isn't much but it comes with a nice promotional bonus.

They are not the hell your whales.

But think of all the money you could make. You could charge $5 a person and come out rich.

I got this as a gift when I was a kid (sometime around 1990, I was 11 or 12). I was really into marine biology and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I had a humpback whale, her name was Sinestra because she had a large scar on her left side. Hope she's doing well.

Adopt a whale this Xmas. Many fat people become very depressed this time of year and your adopting of them CAN make a difference by giving them social activities with normal sized folks. Don't delay visit your nearest Shoney's buffet today!

Get more meaningless overpriced crap, or help keep a whale alive. I'd be okay with the overpriced whale photo.

But it will give the smug animal-before-humans nutjobs something to boast proudly about, on their facebook or Tweeter page

I'm going to start a fund/charity that will reward Japanese whalers big cash for every environmentalist or whale wars douche they harpoon and flense. Grand prize for sinking Greenpeace scows.

I was into wolves as a kid, so my parents let me pick out a wolf from the wildlife group's pack and I'd get letters and pictures about him every couple months for a few years.

Absolutely loved it.

Couple years ago in college I found out that "my" wolf was the longest living wolf from the original pack and was still kicking. I tried to see if I could sponsor him again, but they didn't have the program anymore. I think he passed last year.

/R.I.P. Motoki, I knew you were coolest wolf.

I get my neice a symbolic adoption of an endangered species each year. She totally loves it. Do your research on where you adopt though - some are pretty crappy.

I googled Sinestra, so far only hitting upon references to her as mother to Talon, grandmother to Talon's calf Channel.

One of the hits on the first page, however, was your post here, just a few hours ago.
