I'm amazed at the number of people that get pulled over for routine traffic violations that are carrying tons of drugs, weapons, etc

you better believe that if I was planning on transporting a ton of drugs, I would have my taillights operable, signal every turn and lane change, stop at every yellow light, and set cruise control for the speed limit

of course, I guess I'm a lot smarter than your average criminal, which probably explains why I'm not a criminal

it's probably a combo of some dumbasses, some really unlucky people, and some people driving through areas they are not that familiar with and getting caught in the local speed trap.

At least this dumbass was American, with the oodles of illicit profits being spent here in America. All you idiots who support cannabis prohibition and vote to keep it illegal just keep sealing billions into the dirty Mexican cartels pockets. Its a plant that merely farking relaxes you, its way safer than alcohol, and its use will never stop. Accept it already you dumbasses. Anyone hanging onto the notion that cannabis is harmful or dangerous is akin to the dumbasses who would throw you in jail for drinking a beer back with booze prohibition. Pull your heads out of your asses.

it was oregon, not much schnickelfritz being grown there. most medical states have a big supply that far outweighs the demand. hence the steady decline of price on the west coast. 5-10 years ago a decent # would have set you back 5k. the average current price on Bud Bay and Bud Trader is around 2k. for once this is pretty good cop math. the locals know their top grossing cash crop :)

Sounds like normal prices when buying in bulk like that. That also didn't look like mexican brick in the picture.

This is the first time I haven't seen the cops give some outrageous "street value."

Yeah, you're right. I-5 and Highway 97 in that area seems to bust at least a carload of weed a month. This is the first time I've seen a white perpetrator.

raggtopp: This is the first time I haven't seen the cops give some outrageous "street value."

The Sheriff's department in the county below that, busted a grow operation in the Klamath National Forest a few years ago. Six-inch plants, with a street-value of over 53 BILLION DOLLARS!

Lucky you. I've lived in four states, and travel all the time for work. I'd say the average (non-pacific northwest semi-legal prices) is about $400 an ounce for the good stuff. Which is funny, because you can buy a turnkey hydro grow box for about exactly that much. So I hear.

I'll never understand how people get caught with massive quantities of drugs after getting pulled over for a driving violation.

You'd think if you were driving 40-something pounds of pot around, you'd make sure your car was ship-shape (all lights working, registration sticker current, no loud muffler sounds, etc.) and when it's time to drive, you go 5 mph below the speed limit, stop for a full 3 seconds at every stop sign, slam on the brakes like a mutha-f*-er for yellow lights, etc....

But you always see these morlons getting pulled over for speeding or something.. like in an effort to save five minutes on the drive, they end up spending 5 years in prison. Duh...

2011-11-06 11:42:44 AM
Slamming on your brakes like a motherfu ker at yellow lights isn't suspicious? Seems like a good way to draw attention to yourself with a cop behind you. One second through a fresh red is way less suspicious than skidding into yellow lights.

No one seems to have asked the obvious question.

He was pulled over for a traffic violation. How did the cops end up looking in the trunk?

Sir, could you open the trunk please?

No.

That should have been the end of it unless the cops had some specific reason to suspect there was week hidden in the trunk. They had no right to look in there unless they had a warrant, probable cause or permission.

Even as a Canadian, I know US rights - how come the guy with 42 pounds of pot didn't know his rights?

That much weed tends to have a stench

Skyred: That much weed tends to have a stench

- - -

Yes, I did think of that. However the report says that all the weed was vacuum-packed, which should reduce any odor, though I don't think it would totally remove all odor.

If the guy was smart, it should have been at least double-bagged for the trip, and some type of air freshener used both in the trunk and the passenger compartment of the car. Being a rental car, that probably would not be that suspicious for it to smell like pine.

It would have been nice if the news report had more details on the arrest.

2011-11-06 10:32:40 PM
I just rented one of these recently... DRTA, but my guess is 5, very tightly packed. Or, I could say, "What trunk?"

Provided those are kilo bags, it looks as though two packages were skimmed. I only counted 17 packages. Looks like quality good. What a drag.

Have you concluded writing my citiation? Do you have an articulable reason for detainment which exceeds the reasonable time needed for writing the citation? Is it department policy to have ther dog brought to every stop? Is it germaine to the initial infraction?

So I'm not under arrest and am free to go.

Many times the police are tipped off about the transportation and the traffic stop is just a cover or added bonus reason to stop the car. It's another way they are able to protect undercover officers or people that have given up the information.
