I don't know which is more amazing: This dumb farking Republican thinks people have minutes to spare, or that this dumb farking Republican thinks people actually listen to robocalls.

Vodka Zombie: I don't know which is more amazing: This dumb farking Republican thinks people have minutes to spare, or that this dumb farking Republican thinks people actually listen to robocalls.

Yeah. Some of us use prepaid phones. I most certainly don't have "buckets of minutes" to spare. For that matter, none of my friends or co-workers do either.

On top of that, Oregon passed a law a several years ago that bans ALL political robocalling, whether it's to a landline or a cell phone. You robocall my cell phone & you will be reported to the FCC.

Republicans wanting to do something that hurts the average person and help businesses? Color me shocked!

2011-11-05 11:18:52 PM
I'm assuming the idea here is to purposely target poor blacks to make them use up their minutes.

2011-11-05 11:59:15 PM
Even if cell phone minutes were infinite, my time isn't.

How much of Rep. Lee Terry's campaign contributions comes from telecoms? What an asshole.

Call me, and you guarantee a vote for the straight Democrat ticket.

2011-11-06 12:05:24 AM
Against the law or not, am I the only one who got TONS of these calls during the last election?

2011-11-06 12:06:29 AM
On a positive note, this could spawn another fun protest.
We'll call it "throwing away your minutes" and the object is to throw your phone at a Republican making a public speech every time it runs out of minutes because of robocalls.

2011-11-06 12:06:39 AM
Can they attach a rider that allows every consumer who get robo-calls to cockpunch this guy?

is the GOP finally running out of asshole moves?

I have one for you, Waldon: Let's tax the fark out of the 1%. They have buckets of money.

Who the hell answers a call from an unknown phone number?

/ignored a call today from an unknown phone number

////goddammit so much

He said it would allow companies to quickly notify consumers if their flight is delayed, a product is recalled or their credit card information has been stolen.

And that's exactly how it would be used. There would be no cold-calling or harassing your existing client base. Absolutely not.

2011-11-06 12:14:19 AM
And people like this complain that Obama is out-of-touch with Americans, right?

I mean, I've gotta believe this guy needs to take his mouth off the telecom's cock long enough to eat and drink.

enh, I keep getting calls on my cel for someone named either Ross or Roz (the automated voice is too indistinct to tell).
Eventually I'm going to get fed up, answer the phone, and tell the dumbass on the other end off, but until then, I just let it go to voicemail.

So, I wouldn't be getting anymore calls or texts from someone claiming to be Bank of America, telling me my debit card has been disabled and it's urgent that I call a certain number?

BTW-I don't have an account with Bank of America.

If Democrats used every ad and outreach to tell voters it's a Republican idea to robocall cellphones, there would never be another Republican elected. Unfortunately Democrats would do something incredibly stupid like trying to spread this message by robocall.

Whenever I get those I usually go to google and search the number. You will find out pretty quick usually who it is.

Eh, the media probably won't cover it much either. I looked at our local news station's website and nothing so far. They do, however, have a front page story about some dude who got arrested for pot.

Cantor, Eric (R-VA) $26,000

Try www.800notes.com. Awesome site. If it's a telemarketer, scam artist, or whatever, they'll let you know.

lol@ a consumer base who still puts up with paying to RECEIVE calls. Tell your providers to let the farker making the call pay for it.

My partner has worked at a couple of places that block caller ID for extremely good reasons.

Oddly enough, the last few illegal marketing calls I received on my cell phone were from identifiable numbers.

I'll typically answer an unrecognized number once. After that, I have an entry in my cell contacts named "Wrong Number" and set to go directly to voice mail. Repeat instances of an insistent, erroneous caller get their number added to this.

Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.)
Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.)

Unashamed, enthusiatic, amoral evil.

They should throw their hats in the Presidential Election ring.

I think that we should incorporate ourselves and begin to robocall such politicians under the guise of a political organization trying to pass "common sense use of technology that does not involve sucking off the telecoms"

I figure a robocall every few hours may suffice, and faxes to their congressional offices as well!

I don't. Ever. However - apparently Macy's repeatably calls people a dozen times a day when their credit card payment is overdue. Which is fark'n annoying to say the least.

/don't have a Macy's credit card

I'd be ok with this legislation on three conditions:

1. every voting member of congress (both houses) has a breathalyzer hooked up to their voting switch. they wanna vote? they blow in the machine first. they pop drunk, they get recorded as missing a vote AND its 'cause they're drunk. those records are to be made public, available upon request to anyone who asks for them

2. drug screening becomes mandatory for all members of Congress, their staff, SCOTUS and the President. Joint Chiefs of staff too for that matter. everyone gets random drug tests. they pop positive, they lose their jobs. period.

3. every member of congress must carry a GPS tracker. during business hours, they are required to always keep that transponder on. the records of where they go and who they meet with. for the sake of security, a 24 hour delay can be placed on any request.

No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

What happened to "Right to Privacy"? When does one right (to speech) supercede the right to Privacy?

The personal right to privacy should always succeed. You can say all the shiat you want to but I can "change the channel" to avoid it. On my cell phone, that "IS THE ONLY CHANNEL", and you have no God damn right top Fark with it!

9/10 times they'll be spoofed numbers anyway. Calls made to those numbers go to voicemail or "this number is no longer in service".

4. Every member of Congress must wear a Jacket, which displays his sponsors and corporate donors' logos. This Jacket will be mandatory attire at all official functions and announcements.

5. Every member of Congress must list his corporate sponsors at the bottom of any piece of legislation he authors, edits, or contributes wording to.
