Yay Brent Spiner!

I watched it because Thursday nights on NBC were pretty entertaining when I was in elementary school. Maybe I wasn't a very discerning 10-year-old.

First of all, the headline supposes that anybody needs an excuse to watch one of the greatest sitcoms ever made.

Second of all, well...there is no second of all.

My favorite episode is probably Best of Friends, but Markie Post's bewbs are probably the second best part.

Why did Karen Austin leave the show again?

Hey, that actress was on Voyager and DS9. In fact she was in the running to play Captain Janeway! Star Trek connections, Star Trek connections everywhere...

It's a testament to Markie's hotness that she is still damn sexy with that haircut. It would've knocked several points off a normal woman.

John Laroquette had a great line about one minute before the start of the clip. Harry was lamenting on hearing the kid's outbreak from the previous episode. He said something akin to he could still hear the kid's voice. Dan's response: "It's probably because they were sleeping in your alley."

I loved that show. One of my childhood favorites that has also managed to age fairly well.

Small Wonder on the other hand...

I swear I remember as about an 8 or 9 year old child seeing Brent Spiner come back to Night Court as Commander Data. Data had apparently gone to a Star Trek convention and gotten into a fight with an old-school Trekkie dressed up (badly) as Mr. Spock. Harry heard the case, and had decided to fine them and throw both of them in jail for a week, when Data said something like, "I don't think so," hit his com badge, and teleported back to the Enterprise in front of the Night Court cast.

I have a very clear memory of it, but I've never been able to find the clip online, ever, which makes no sense, given how popular that clip should be. It's been nearly 30 years, so I suppose it could have just been a dream or something that I got confused in my head, but I really don't think so. Both shows were syndicated, so a crossover would have been very easy, and it just seems like something Spiner would do. Anybody else remember this?

As cool as that would have been (and as Spiner-like as it sounds), it must have been a dream. Spiner's last appearance on Night Court was 6 May 1987 in the episode "Her Honor: Part 2." Star Trek: The Next Generation aired its first episode, Encounter at Farpoint, on 26 September 1987 just over three months later.

If I'm not mistaken, the episode you're thinking of is Night Court's season finale for Season 6 (Episode 22), "Yet another day in the life" and this segment in particular. (new window)

It was a deliberate reference to Spiner's time on the show, but he was not actually in the episode.

HTH
