I'm not sure what to think about him anymore. When he's healthy, he's a powerhouse and one of the top five backs in the league. However, he's had hamstring issues going back to his time in Denver and whether or not he can stay healthy enough to consistently contribute is in serious question.

Also, I'm not sure he could've handled the entire contract situation any worse than he has. I mean, it's one thing to stoke rumors that you're intentionally missing time due to illness, or to start hinting around that you're ready to walk, but to skip out on a goddamn children's Halloween event with your name on it? That's about as low as it gets. I'm about ready to bid the guy farewell and start pulling for Trent Richardson to come to Cleveland with one of our two first round picks next season.

I'm kind of wondering if the Browns are trying to get rid of him so they don't have to give him a big payday using money that's needed to shore up the worst parts of the team (note that this includes 1.1% less parts of the team than it did in 2010).

Still, it seems like Hillis isn't as focused or driven as he was last year. Maybe his teammates are responding to that.

Apropos of nothing, I just needed to state somewhere that there is a player starting for Alabama tonight with the given name of DONT'A. Ok.

Wallace also confirmed a report by The Plain Dealer that players were upset Hillis went to Arkansas to get married last Tuesday instead of coming in for treatment.

Seriously? He takes the day off to go to one of the most important events in his life, which was probably planned well in advance, and you're whining that he somehow didn't predict that he would be injured that week when setting the date?

You're 3-4. You're last in your division. The only real reason anyone on your team has to play anymore is to boost their stats to use as leverage during contract negotiations. And you're complaining about some guy getting married.

Right...

The NFL regular season is 4 months long. Four months.

He could have waited until January, because lord knows the Browns aren't going to the playoffs.

Who cares? He can get married any time he damn well wants, as long as he shows up for games. Maybe he moved up his wedding date since he knew he was going to be out for a while.

"Of course we're going to be a little upset if Peyton's not in there getting his treatment," said Wallace. "We're a team, and we rely on each other. But if he felt he wanted to go get married that day, that's his business.

There was another team that relied on you, Mr. Wallace. Which is why you're now with the Browns. Get over yourself.

I think the guy needs to watch Major League II. He has Ricky Vaughn Syndrome.

2011-11-05 11:20:08 PM
Yay Madden curse! The stories make it sound like the other players are tired of his crap, and while Wallace could've been a little diplomatic, sooner or later someone will talk. And this is about as sensitive as he's going to get. Just "up and getting married" sounds kinda insane considering the circumstances, the not playing and Halloween blow-off just make it sound like someone who read their own press clippings and think they're awesome.

RBs are the most easily-replaced position after kicker, and even most stars' careers don't last much past age 30. This guy is pissing away millions he'll never again have the ability to make, which is kind of a shame, as there's just no reason for it. Hopefully the new wife will knock some sense into him (though if it's as random and impulsive as it sounds, good luck with that),

Dude's screwing me up in at least 2 fantasy leagues. Not that anyone cares about my fantasy teams. Same as no one really cares about the Browns.

Biggest part of the story for me was the revelation that Seneca Wallace isn't actually out of the league yet. I realize that Cleveland is 2 steps away from that, with my beloved Redskins being a mere one step away...

To be fair, they were cheering Couch's replacement...but to be unfair, that is why most of them deserve a 4-12 team every year.

That, plus as champ, I was picking 12th & 13th, took Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald there and all the better RBs were gone by the time my pick came back around.

mc_madness: Poster child for steroid abuse in the NFL.

have never understood why and how NBC hitched its Sunday Night NFL Wagon to Rodney Harrison. He acknowledged the suspension in a late Friday night conference call, admitting that he obtained human growth hormone but said that he had never taken steroids.

"I want to make it clear," Harrison said, "that never once did I take steroids. I did admit to the commissioner that I took a banned substance."
(new window)

even 4 years later, the NFL cant' decide what its position is on HGH, yet 4 years ago, Rodney says he took HGH, but then something beyond (or within? *cough cough*) HGH that triggered the then-existing NFL rule?

point being.....Rodney Harrison huckin' and buckin', yukking it up with dan patrick and coach dungy and the nfl's platonic guardian, peter king......yeah, i can just see Barry Bonds on ESPN's MLB coverage. yeah. that doesn't invoke credibility questions.

He had one good year. I never like taking one year wonders because they're so likely to fail.

Pratty: He had one good year. I never like taking one year wonders because they're so likely to fail.

true. Personally, i avoided him because I remembered how much he wore down last year, and thought that might lead to problems this year. Not sure if that was the case, but it certainly seems like it.

Of course, I also avoided Maurice Jones-Drew, thinking he might have injury issues, and I tured out to be wrong.
I'm just glad I avoided the Carolina running back situation. What a mess that is.

The Smails Kid: Who schedules their wedding during the NFL season?

I did- 10-10-10 comes around once a century. Woke up to the Rams getting flogged by the Lions, and went to bed the next day to Percy Harvin on my FF team catching a TD to end the undefeated streak of my fantasy league's leader.

It worked out.

2011-11-06 01:30:03 AM
I think he's still a couple years from showing up on the Redskins roster. He needs to prove he's a washed up RB before Snyder will write him a cheque.

2011-11-06 01:57:41 AM
I'm a Seahawks fan (yeah, I know, I know) and I've got to say that while he was here Wallace was known as a great team mate (if not much of a QB) so if Seneca Wallace is throwing you under the bus you KNOW you've screwed up.

Now THAT is funny. He was a huge upgrade, but he was far from a Top 5 back, especially at the end of the season. Maybe if he hadn't caught the Cleveland staph he might have proven me wrong, but he didn't.

Ken VeryBigLiar: So who is on the inside track to overpay him by $5-$10 Million? Miami? Oakland? Seattle?

Not Seattle.

Pistol Pete is in the business of giving every Pac-10 (12) player who didn't come to USC a shot at the NFL. (Marshawn Lynch, etc) and then deciding who sticks. Seahawks will be good (and under Pete) but not until 2014.

2011-11-06 07:29:20 AM
That Seneca Wallace said this is kind of a big deal. In Seattle, he was known as a big team player and one of the nicer guys on the team. He was also a very capable backup; his Seattle coaches kept him under the Hasselback plan when he was playing, though, and that dampered his effectiveness. Hillis is having some serious PR issues right now, and it is amazing that he wants a new contract when most people in the league know his type of power running style can only last a few years before his body craps out.
