Ive enjoyed the show lately. Especially since Lorne stopped shoving Kristin Wiig down our throats and gave the much funnier Bill Hader a lot more screen time.

Just so long as he brings back Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood it would be worth it even if the rest of the show is a pile of suck.

It would be the first time Eddie has done a damn thing for him.

I don't think I ever laughed harder at an SNL skit than that one.

Shenanigans!: Mugato: Cool, bring SNL back to 1983 when it was the worst it ever was.

Come on, this is FARK. The worst season is always whatever the current season is.

Officially though the worst season was the one right after all the remaining original cast members left. '81 I think? You won't see any of those episodes in syndication or on any compilation DVDs.

Yeah, the DVD sets ended with season 5. They didn't even bother going forward with SNL 80, Which was the first season after the original cast left, and the first without Lorne Michaels.

It's really only notable for Charles Rocket saying "fark", and Eddie Murphy being in a couple episodes before they ended the season early, fired the producer, and brought in Dick Ebersol to put together the kickass early 80s cast everyone remembers.

Even though I know Raw and Delirious practically by heart, I just don't think Eddie's brand of comedy is relevant to the current times.

I don't think there's anything Eddie could do in 2011 that could be funnier than say, Dave Chappelle, or Louis CK. Things and times have changed.

I wouldn't have seen it then. I just know that the mid 80s were bad, when Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo were the only draws Julia Louis Dreyfuss was there too but they didn't give her anything to do. The mid-90s were bad too.

Not only is the skit a riot, but the music track -- which is not any actual James Brown track to my knowledge -- is farking ace. It's a parody-to-the-point-of-perfection of James Brown's proto-funk early 70s style.

Opiate of the Lasses: I don't think there's anything Eddie could do in 2011 that could be funnier than say, Dave Chappelle, or Louis CK.

Impressions.

More than any other comic, Eddie can do bang-on impressions. I would say he's even better than Rich Little and Phil Hartman in his ability to completely capture a character -- not just a voice, but mannerisms and attitude too. And then do funny things with them. His strength has always been all the character voices he can do (which makes him perfect for voice acting roles and multiple parts in movies, with generous helpings of makeup and prosthetics).

Eddie can still come back and slay anyone with a routine if he gets the impression right. I mean, honestly now: Who knew that this was Eddie Murphy the first time they saw this guy?

Eddie Murphy in the 1980s was brilliant. At the end of the decade he began a bad run of movies with Harlem Nights. Then in the mid-90s he started using fat suits, and since then, he's been mediocre. He hasn't done anything in the last 25 years that comes close to Trading Places, Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop.

I thought he was hysterical in "Bowfinger".

The only thing I remember from that movie is how unfunny Steve Martin was (talk about another comedian who peaked in the 1980s -- his last best comedy role was in Father of the Bride).
