I like how they compared OWS with the Tea Party. I don't think OWS has any major support from network TV like the Tea Party does.

Maybe. A lot of people sat on their hands in 2010 which has turned out to be an unmitigated economic and social disaster. Protesting won't change anything without taking it to the ballot.

whether mr bickle is serious or not, I wonder how long until some Real Americans decide to go down to the Occupy protests and start beating people up. If Limbaugh and Beck told them, to, I'll bet they would.

I'd pay for the pay-per-view to watch you slap some of the protesters. Specifically the former Marines and Rangers who are already pissed off at the assaults their brothers have taken at the hands of the Oakland PD. Yes, I would pay to watch you (try) to slap them.

Good luck with that.

\9.5 out of 10 though...

Extra credit, name the investment bank that Rahm worked at.

Limbaugh would never come right out and say it - he's too smart for that. He'll make veiled references that give him an "out" if called on it or if something happens. Beck on the other hand I can see going all 1990 on a female protester with a group of his mouth-breathing, window-licking followers cheering him on like the bar scene in The Accused.

I'm not sure that the Occupy movements will help to re-elect Obama and elect more Democratic Party members to Congress. It depends on how far they go towards stopping the parasitic relationship the government has with the exceptionally rich and the largest corporations. My guess is that only a few will actually try to stop the gravy train.

You obviously don't get it. Let me, a Libertarian, explain it to you. The GOP, which I used to be a part of and helped campaign, is completely in bed with big business. The Democrats, for all their faults, do tend to represent the middle class and I give them a big plus considering which party, GOP, ran us into the ground. It's not so much who is rich. It's a matter of who is willing to change the narrative and help the middle class who has been pissed on for the past 30 years.

There are a few, very very few, in the current GOP (which is not the GOP of the 1990s much less the 1960s that I grew up with and was progressive) who give a crap about what happens to the average person. They don't care about our rights (Patriot Act, removal of habeas corpus). They don't care about the sick and elderly (completely ignoring the General Welfare clause of the Constitution). They don't want people to vote (ignoring multiple parts of the Constitution).

My opinion? They need to be rounded up and treated as treasonous elements. Adams was right in this when it came to the Alien and Sedition Act.

... And you know they have Obama's back because a dude on Fox News said so?

'Cause, um, I've seen a fair number of people in these threads saying they're kinda pissed at how Obama has been handling things.

/Of course, some of them might also feel the republicans would handle things *worse*.

Using dehumanizing language to describe people with whom you disagree with is a handy way to assuage your guilt if they get hurt in the course of their civic action.

Case in point: the veterans who get injured are being called turncoats and traitors. The students are being called hippies. The union members are being called thugs. They're all humans, and they're all americans. OWS members are not mutts, halfof33. Unless what you mean by that is that they aren't pure-blooded white Aryans? Is that your implication? That they're some sort of mongrel race, inferior and to be repressed and kept from power at all costs?

That's kind of the point, genius - if you don't play by the rules, you don't get elected. That's part of what OWS wants to change.

It ain't Obama they're afraid of. He's a Reagan Republican. What they are afraid of is the inevitable swing of that political pendulum that happens every few decades - and that we are about to take a HARD left.
Obama is a joke compared to what is coming, and the right wingers are correct to be shaking in their boots.

not to be a pessimist, but we were saying this when i was in college almost 10 years ago. "it's gonna swing back. we've been going this direction for 25 years now, it's got to swing back soon!"

Except politics and policy don't follow newtonian mechanics. my advice is get rid of your debt and don't have children. the rich have won. the best we can do is mitigate our losses at this point. We aren't going to get that money back.
