Amazing scramble. Great throw. Better catch. Sad he never played again.

He must be broke or something

Hope he sends Asante Samuel a "thank you" note now and then.

The Giant Snatch > Catch 42

Ah, who could forget that play call:

"Manning...escapes....throws...it is caught."

True, but how many can say that the last catch they made as an NFL player was one that led directly to your team winning the Super Bowl and is one of the most replayed moments in the history of the game?

It's much sadder that he's a hateful dick than it is that he never played again.

That's some catch, that catch-42.

2011-11-05 02:30:45 PM
I hate that catch not because I was cheering for the Patriots, but because I was cheering against that pack of part-time truck drivers known as the 1972 Dolphins.

2011-11-05 02:38:30 PM
If you were cheering for the Patriots because of the Dolphins, you're too short-sighted to realize that then you'd have an entire assload of Pats fans that are 100,000x more obnoxious than the Dolphins with a renewed vigor of annoyingness about bragging. At least the '72 Dolphins will all be dead soon and then no one will care.

If the Pats went undefeated then you'd hear about it for the rest of your life.

I actually disagree.

The Dolphins ownership is trying their hardest to turn the Dolphins into an ENTERTAINMENT franchise, as well as an NFL organization. I can very easily tune out Pats fans, or even turn off ESPN. However, if Dolphins leadership gets their way, you're going to see pop superstars all over the world wearing 'Fins gear, and there will be more intermingling between pop culture and sport. Soon enough, the idea would spread, and what once was a silly Super Bowl tradition with the horrible pop halftime show would become a routine occurrence for NFL games. Imagine, EVERY game has Christina Aguilera, Mark Antony, and all those sucky, shiatty people singing at halftime. Every. Game.

I'd rather deal with a bunch of loudmouth fans, who used to whine like biatches and now boast like princes, than deal with the possibility of the NFL doing even more pop culture crossover attention whoring. I want the Dolphins to fail like no other organization in the league, because the league is doing enough pussyfooting already.

If anyone ever gets to play the cupcake regular season schedule that the '72 Dolphins did, I'm sure they'll have company.

/third-easiest strength of schedule since the merger

Honestly, I got 3 sentences in that article before I closed it. It's amazing the kind of people that get paid to write these days.

One of the things I remember about that play was how drunk I was

Instead, we have to hear about how elite Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning is and "18-1 LOL" for the rest of our lives. Kind of a lateral move.

Did he also relive the nine missed holding calls during that play?

A Patriots fan wants to talk about holding?

Talk about the blackest pot in the world calling the kettle light grey.

Lou Cypher: Hope he sends Asante Samuel a "thank you" note now and then.

Asante either makes some great plays or he gets burnt spectacularly. And that was one play where he did really bad.

That was such a weird season that the two Super Bowl teams also played each other the last games of the regular and preseason. And that SB win saved Coughlin's job.

David Tyree, ranked number 2 in the great Pantheon of football players that came up big in a Super Bowl, only to fade quickly into obscurity. Timmy Smith is number 1 in my mind because it was a whole game performance. Plus I am admittedly biased as a Redskins fan.

Percy Howard

Your arguments are invalid.

The NBA has survived the Lakers, the NFL can survive the Dolphins

The NBA in and of itself is an entertainment organization, not a sport.

And I know, the NFL isn't a "sport," I was just complaining about how the NBA caters to stars in a way that no other sport does.

Yeah, he's no John Beck, that's for sure.

In any case, it'll be nice to break out my Tyree jersey tomorrow while the Giants get their balls punched in at Foxboro. But Marathon Sunday is fun regardless.

I just saw Percy Howard today on one of NFLN's top 10 deals - top 10 one-hit wonders or whatever. (Too young to remember it when it happened.)

Loved the jheri curls when he was talking about burning Mel Blount. What, did he get interviewed about it in 1988?

/that said, concur about the Timmy Smith comment above

Super Bowl Seventeen. Fourth and one from the Dolphins' forty-two yard line. Hand-off to John Riggins. Game. Set. Match.

The Immaculate Reception
The Catch
The Music City Miracle
The Helicopter Dive
Lynn Swann's Super Bowl X ballet catch
Bo Jackson going supersonic in the Kingdome
Earl Campbell carrying three defenders and half a jersey into the end zone

Take any one of those over Riggins, and possibly Tyree's catch.

yea, nice catch and all, but fark this guy for being an intolerant dickbag.

UNC_Samurai: possibly Tyree's catch.

Sure, if the entirety of the play simply includes the catch, and not Eli's scramble/escape.
