Well I'll give it a shot, made by the dude who did Dexter's Lab and The Powerpuff Girls and and also has Steve Buscemi? AND it's about monsters?

Hmmm, maybe.

FilMation had Groovie Goolies, sorta similar. Sid & Marty Krofft had Horror Hotel, with Witchie-Poo running the joint. Y'know, I'll go with this, it actually has a lot of promise.

And Steve Buscemi was awesome in "Monsters, Inc.".

The description of "Hotel Transylvania" sounds appealing to me.

Obviously those are the two brightest silver linings in this story, but ... most of the rest of the news kinda bespeaks the usual big studio lowest-common-denominator high-concept crap.

It's going to depend on the script -- with a great one, this could turn out okay. Mediocre or worse, nothing could possibly save the film.

I'll wait for the first reviews to come in before spending any money on this.

Another thing -- this would be brilliant if they'd gone with people like Billy West in the lead and the major supporting roles. You know, voice actors with actual talent, instead of going for 1995's A-listers' name recognition.

Fran Drescher? Seriously?? Without even seeing it, we already know exactly what she's going bring to the role.

Hell they could probably just get Billy to do an Adam Sandler impersonation for the film, just scratch Sandler a check for a few million to use him name, save everyone a lot of time.

Hmm .. definitely.

No matter how stupid the story may sound, in the abstract -- with Genndy in charge, it's guaranteed to have stylish design, brilliant composition, and an occasional breathlessly-paced action sequence.

For those unaware: this is the creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and the original Clone Wars mini-series.

I'm very glad to see he's landed on his feet, after Cartoon Network shuffled Sym-Bionic Titan all over its schedule earlier this year -- and then quickly cancelled it.

/both Adam Sandler and Miley Cyrus have done voice roles in animated features prior to this
//not saying that they were all that great at it

Not even Adam Sandler can ruin this. It's no The Kim Possible Work Out Video but it can't be that bad. Tartakovsky was a better director than McFalane.

Yes, as, iirc, a nymphomaniac who was convinced she was a vampire. I think the premise was a milque-toast psychologist finding himself in a hotel filled with various phobia and disorder sufferers who convinced themselves they were old monster movie standards. I don't remember much about it, but I seem to recall the film being chuckle-worthy.

Yup. Hollywood needs to start actually employing voice actors for voice work instead of throwing untrained comedians and television celebs at these projects. Sure a big name brings in some of the audience, but a superior performance will help make a work more likely to get bought on DVD or successfully merchandized. It is a rare live actor who is just as good at voice work as in the flesh; not everyone can be Patrick Stewart. Just thinking of all those Miyazaki English tracks makes me winch.

I may dig Mark Hamill for his voice work, but castle in the sky drives me nuts because he is doing the Joker voice the whole time.

Anyhow, stunt casting celebrities just means they play animal versions of their stereotyped personnas. Contrast old Looney Tunes where presumably Mel Blanc is IMITATING Bogart et al. Let the trained professional voices do their thing. For the uninitiated around here, check out imdb for say... Frank Welker, and find out how a small cadre of experts were the voice of every character you remember as a kid.
