Or you could listen to quality music like this:
ecx.images-amazon.com
assets.rollingstone.com

And like always, I have never heard of any of them. I will pass.

Hipsters, I'm sure.

2011-11-05 12:38:49 AM
i've never heard of any of them. surprise surprise.

2011-11-05 12:49:22 AM
But if people listen to them, won't they lose all their hipster credibility, and become albums I shouldn't listen to?

2011-11-05 12:52:21 AM
I should be listening to five albums right now? Wouldn't that just sound really weird and confusing?

I'm the anti-hipster, I will only listen to stuff after the elitist schlubs stop hyping it. These albums aren't ready for prime-time as far as I'm concerned, because I've never heard of them and they weren't around pre-2000, which was the last time music was good.

Please continue the inevitable pretentious circle-jerk in my absence.

Relatively Obscure: I should be listening to five albums right now? Wouldn't that just sound really weird and confusing?

curse you, you beat me to it. I think listening to any five albums simultaneously would suck.

Being anti-hipster is soooo hipster.

If I wasn't so busy cutting right now, I would totes give those gems a listen.

2011-11-05 03:21:36 AM
No thanks. I have The Low End Theory, OK Computer, Hot Buttered Soul, Irresistible Bliss, and Power, Corruption, & Lies in rotation right now.

No.

And the reason is because you had to tell me that I should listen to it.

violentsalvation: And like always, I have never heard of any of them. I will pass.

why would you pass on music you've never heard of? do you hate music? i'll be honest, i haven't listened and haven't passed judgement, but i have to question this attitude.

2011-11-05 03:37:34 AM
That first band and their song title "Horses" made me think of The Golden Palaminos, "Pure," Lori Carson, and "Little Suicides."

I have never had a hipster give me good music advice, and every single one of those pictures screamed hipster. That's why I'll pass.

I could probably run 5 instances of winamp and set them to each output to a different speaker i guess, but id think it would just be annoying.

You could do it with Nickleback. On the other hand, you'd be listening to 5 Nickleback albums.

I'm thinking, how about no.

I heard that if you listen to the first five Nickelback albums simultaneously, It sounds exactly like the sixth Nickelback album.

I hate list like these. Like you can just throw out five albums and assume they will be each be adored the same. Failing to take into account that unless they all play the same type of music then more than likely you might like two but hate the others. And if they all sound alike then just pick one and tell me to listen to that one.

A better setup to a list would be-"Five albums that sound kind of like Wilco" or "Ten albums that should have been the follow up to OK Computer"

And here's a site (new window) with a better "people from bands recommending things to listen to"-type list feature.

2011-11-05 04:50:16 AM
since the fark collective snubbed their noses, i decided to listen...

and for the most part, yeah it was boring.

Zola Jesus has a Stevie Nicks vibe to her music, and I at least made it through the whole song with her offering. The rest ...eh maybe I'm just not the audience.

2011-11-05 05:29:55 AM
Hmm, I should be listening to Reign in Blood right now. Thank you subby.

2011-11-05 05:37:12 AM
If you accidentally listened to any of those try Revocation - Chaos of Forms (new window), it's at least 32x better than that shiat

I tried to be fair by listening to all the clips, but to be honest, none of them were appealing to me. And I'm a person with an eclectic taste in music. I listen to everything from Mozart, Vivaldi & Bach to Queen, The Beatles, Eurythmics, Annie Lennox & Gorillaz, plus a number of groups & singers in between.

2011-11-05 05:41:35 AM
I'm too busy listening to Florance and the Machine at this time. Maybe later.

2011-11-05 05:41:56 AM
Glad to see some metal in this thread! UGH at that suggestion list. Closest I'll get to that crap is Parov Stelar, and they're like swing fusion, so that's all right then.

My suggestions for metal heads. Suggestions in return enjoyed!

Paradise Lost - Symphony X
The Odyssey - Symphony X
Oceanborn - Nightwish
Dark Passion Play - Nightwish
Blackwater Park - Opeth
Horror Show - Iced Earth
"Them" - King Diamond
Mabool - Orphaned Land
Systematic Chaos - Dream Theater

It's nearly five in the morning and I'm at work so that's about it for now.

Submitter: Five albums you should be listening to right now

Right now? I don't know, subby. Five albums at the same time would be quite the cacophony. I'll pass on that and get back to listening to the Bastion (^) soundtrack. Yes, it is awesome. Seriously.

Since everyone is saving each other time by listing music. I will just say that you can't go wrong with Boston's first album, anything by Danzig(it's just so evil), Iron and Wine, and I have been loving me some Cake recently particularly Jolene and Short Skirt/Long Jacket.

Also, has anyone listened to the Lou Reed/Metallica album yet? A buddy of mine hated it. He feels that Reed is so self possessed he wouldn't even let them get one solo on the album.

/I am disappoint

It's absolute crap. I can't believe they thought doing this was a good idea.

Saddened.

Don't really care for Lou Reed but I figure if you can write a halfway decent song and give it to Metallica then you will have at least a solid if not good album.

I notice that music reviewers seem to have totally lost the ability to talk about music in descriptive, abstract terms, and are forced to describe it by comparing it to other music.
Hey, guyz! Check out "Band you've never heard of!" they sound like a cross between Band you've never heard of, and Band you've never heard of!

You people - you "I only like music from before 1976" people. And you "only heavy metal is good. Everything else is for girls" people...

I hate you. You are holding humanity back. Please leave the planet.

It makes no sense - why would one of our two or three living, American musical geniuses want to play with a second rate commercial hair band?
