um...I thought it was illegal for cops to try and hide their badge number and identity?

It is, that's why the response wasn't so nice.

After all that's happened, are you really surprised?

The response didn't seem "not so nice" at all to me - I would like to know what happened after the video ended...

Cop should be suspended without pay for a few weeks at a minimum. He was obviously planning to break the law.

Behind the Blue 'Wall no one has a name or rank.

I'm feeling safer by the minute.

Which is probably why the Lt removed it.

So Weaver, spending the weekend at OWS?

Last time I tried that I ended up in jail. The charge was "public intoxication" even though I was stone sober (unfortunately). Cops also took $100 from my wallet and referred to me as "it" in the squad car.

fark THE NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT. Oh, and if any of you want to white knight 'em, then fark you too.

That cop looks like he'd like to beat the hell out of that reporter and would if given five minutes in a back alley.

Bunch of hipsters live in california that want to risk the life of a Cop, go figure.

Hey, if he doesn't want his life risked by being a cop in a dangerous city like Oakland, he can choose a different profession.

But I was not a protester, so I did nothing.....and then they came for me.

Maybe he got some donut on his shirt and had to borrow a buddy's.

Well, that was anti-climactic. A real cop would kill them to get rid of the evidence.

Pretty sure it was the civilian with the video camera who solved the problem.

The other cop just realized the first cops goose was cooked.

I'm curious as hell to see what happened afterwards.
Calling the Lieutenant over was brilliant.

2011-11-05 04:39:24 AM
WOW...just wow (and no modified wooden toilet rollers here either).

That officer gave a superior officer the same "eff you" look that he gave to the guy (behind the camera) asking why his name tab was covered up.

I was actually saying out loud what his expression was saying (as I read it): "Damn you, you no-good chink Lt., you're no better than this commie hippie questioning me."

Not that he was actually thinking that, durr, but his response (or rather lack thereof) to both parties still disturbed me.

so this is what life is like in the rest of America.

let me assure you, in Chicago if you were to talk to a cop like this, or even look like you MIGHT question a cop, or you dare to point a camera at a cop your farkin head will get split wide open, you'll get arrested and have a few thousand dollars in tickets and fines.

in Chicago you do what they say, and you do it FAST.

How awesome for you?

I dunno, I guess I'm on the other side of the fence on this one (as usual). With as many cameras as there are at these "protests", cops can be picked out very easily without their name badges being visible. Video evidence is more powerful than just name dropping. My first thought was that the cop probably was thinking about the probability of a bunch of the protesters deciding to take out revenge on him by using the FOIA or any of the handy people finding websites on the net to find out where he lives and go there to start fakring with him and his family at his private residence.

You're an ignorant idiot. Cops have been masking their ID for a long time because they plan on committing acts they know to be criminal and they want to get away with it.

You piece of shiat apologists are just enabling their brutality.

well, it means we have a REALLY nice Downtown. I mean, there aren't really any bums, and very little violence or crime- Downtown. The few square miles in and around The Loop is great.

The entire south and west sides of the city are dangerous gang-war-torn disaster areas but Downtown is very nice.

What suburb are you from that makes you such an authority on the city?

meh
he means war torn black west and south sides, not the gentrified west side, nor say, hyde park or bronzeville

This has been common practice for police to do when they want to bust heads and not get caught. And it's been going on for as long as I've cared to notice that sort of thing... 20 years? From simple party break-ups to protests, cops do this all the time.

Right. Because there has been very little police violence and lots of protesters showing up at cops' houses. Spend much time in the real world?

If you consider that area to have not too many bums I shudder to think what a lot would seem like.

Cops hiding their identity pretty much says they intend to break the law.

If it's going to be that kind of party, step up your game appropriately to meet the threat.

The addresses of police and most public servants are not listed and cannot be found in any public database. I doubt you'd get far with a FOIA request either. However, if you waited long enough, once they are retired or let go from the agency, the info isn't protected anymore. But by then, would it be worth it?

I can count the times I've had guns pulled on me for no reason.... because I remember every time, thinking, That Guy is Insane and May Shoot Me.....

Was threatened with arrest for asking an officer in a patrol car if he was aware he had hit a bicyclist...
I walked up on him yelling out his passenger window at the guy on the ground in front of his front right tire...

"Grab your bike and get the fark outta here" "Get up"....

Alot of them have seen too much,
some of them are total assholes.

The police were holding a cousin of mine they had picked up whom was in a full blown psychotic state.
They told his family that they would hold them till we arrived.
They let him go out the front door about 15 minutes before we arrived.
"Do you realize that he is totally psychotic???!!!"
"Yes!" The 7 people behind the front counter giggled.
"You had better start looking for him then---- " One said.

I do not know how I did not get arrested that day.
Who would not want to trash the police station? (2452 West Belmont Avenue, no thank's to you guys.)

We found him 2 hours later in a bar some blocks away, about to be arrested again... the owner had already called the police...

There are some good ones out there.
I'm sorry I don't have one of those experiences to share...

Look, people, it's not like Bad Cops are just a minority. That minority of criminal cops is covered for by a group abiding by the Blue Line. The very existence of that blue line negates the possibility of a majority population of Good Cops. A Good Cop who covers for a Criminal Cop is a BAD COP.

There's Bad Criminal Cops, Bad Cops, Potentially Bad Cops, and then at the very upper end you have Snitch Cops. If you're a cop and you have cop friends, you're a bad cop.
