That shiat HAD to be a money-laundering front for the mob or something..

Out of the 30+ years I've seen DD kiosks, I probably only saw two or three people tops actually BUY some, instead of doing the typical "get free sample, avoid eye contact, move away" that most passers-by did.

2011-11-04 05:42:59 PM
I can't believe it lasted this long. My sister used to work at the mall kiosk. I wouldn't even eat it when it was free. More like ice cream for a bleak future.

2011-11-04 05:45:19 PM
Screw you guys...I liked 'em.

2011-11-04 05:54:30 PM
Seriously, I am amazed as well. Oh hey let's take a bowl of ice cream, remove half of it, shape the rest into icy balls, and charge people the same price.

Dippin Dots were pretty good. Too bad they were $7 or something for a little cup that they made damned sure to level off with a spatula.

2011-11-04 06:45:46 PM
I had them once at a ballpark, not bad.

2011-11-04 06:58:28 PM
Give it a couple of years, and the places that use the liquid nitrogen to freeze it to order will be gone too.

2011-11-04 07:06:20 PM
So their assets have been frozen?

I've never even heard of them.

2011-11-04 07:17:56 PM
So their assets have been frozen?

Yes, and their financial future is a rocky road.

2011-11-04 07:25:31 PM
Really? So you're telling me I'm not going to be able to pay $5-7 for a cup of their ice cream anymore? Damn...

/Oh hey look, there's a (insert shop that sells ice cream) nearby......

2011-11-04 07:31:37 PM
1% of the ice cream shops sell 99% of the ice cream.

Occupy Baskin-Robbins.

It's no wonder they went under, they haven't made a technological breakthrough in ice cream in the last decade at least. If you want to stay ahead in the ice cream business, you need to stay on the cutting edge.

2011-11-04 07:34:26 PM
I loved Dippin Dots, just not at the price they were selling it for. That stuff was outrageously expensive.

2011-11-04 07:37:55 PM
Too bad. While this shiat was overpriced and terrible, it was fun shooting them from my Daisy BB pistol. Keep the weapon in the freezer for best results.

Yeah I really liked em...except how they reminded me I'm not rich. Wildly overpriced.

I never had them because of the price, but they always reminded me, in a not good way of Orbitz.

an old comedy website named "The Brunching Shuttlecocks" did a piece of stadium food 10 years ago - I'll never forget the review of Dippin' Dots:

"It's just like ice cream, except for the part where it's good".

2011-11-04 08:45:15 PM
I bet they didn't see that coming.

2011-11-04 09:11:13 PM
In fact, the company was making money hand over fist, double digit growth. But then, due to a narrow interpretation of FDA rules, they had to imprint expiration dates on each and every individual dot...

Exactly that. I bought it at $4.00. I'm more hesitant to pay $7.

Me, too. They called them Space Dots.

I never liked them, but my wife's Uncle had a lot to do with their invention, so I had to always say I liked them and have some.

"Microbiologist Curt Jones employed his expertise in "cryogenic technology" to create Dippin' Dots in 1988, according to the company's website."

Math doesn't seem to be a strong point from either of you.

Kids for some reason love dippin dots. I think they are gross.

We've had Graeters in some stores where I am, but, just the "chip" flavors, which are all very good.

Was in Columbus last month tho and had the Peach for the first time, and that is just crazy insane good. So, was very happy to see another store that I usually don't go down the ice cream isle have the peach flavor.

They should make dippin' dots with special fiber-rich ice cream so you get nice big, multicolored bits in your poop.

2011-11-05 12:04:53 AM
Meh they sell that crap at the ghetto food store here in the Panhandle. It's next to gelato so there's a good chance they still have the first box they ever stocked.

Who would buy BBs when they can get REAL ice-cream?

Dippin Dots, ice cream of the future files Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the present because it was bigger in the past.

Home-made is the way to go. I've got a recipe for apple pie where you actually bake up all these buttery crumbly bits and mix that in along with stove-cooked apples with cinnamon. farking awesome.

Makes sense. The space program's budget has been cut. This was probably a line item deduction.
