FTFA: Taylor Van Diest, 18, died in hospital on Monday after RCMP officers, friends and family found her beaten unconscious near some railway tracks.

..."Van Diest was reported missing after she failed to meet a friend to go trick-or-treating."

Well, not to be a douche, but she never should have been trick or treating at that age. And if she would have realized that, she would probably still be alive.

That being said, she probably scared the crap outta some drifter near the railroads who went all Zombieland on her.

Too late. At that age, it's not about the candy, it's about roaming the streets after dark with your friends. And probably the tricking, more than the treating.

Vancouver seems to have more than its share of young people and kids getting kidnapped, killed, raped, missing, etc. Sorry for using all the commas.

I know. I would totally be freaked out by a young girl with a crappy zombie costume on during Halloween. I'd probably be so scared I'd beat her to death...

I think her friend killed her by the tracks.

Also, who wants to trick or treat when you can get drunk and dance?

Armstrong is hundreds of miles away from Vancouver. Other than that, good point!

Armstrong is nowhere near Vancouver.

A better comment would be "Tiny little towns in the BC Interior have more than their share of young people and kids getting kidnapped, killed, raped, missing, etc. in unusual ways that attract a disproportionate amount of media attention."

I don't buy the trick-or-treating. That sounds like a cover story for her and her friends to go out and do something illegal.

Indeed, why do we let any women walk the streets after dark after the age of 18, they should all be locked away safely at home, right?

to be fair, I was going to say something like TrancePI said, but without the douchy parts.. 18 is a little old to trick or treat, unless she was just roaming around with her friends sa was already stated.

it is so you can track while you track.

TFA mentioned she went to meet someone at the "railroad tracks." This seems to be, let's say, very unsensible place to meet. At a station, okay. Plain railroad tracks, no. Good things do not happen on railroad tracks.

Can't tell if Matthew Keene just laid out a sneaky troll or had an honest "d'oh" moment.

Armstrong is a good drive north of Kelowna, and Kelowna is nowhere near Vancouver.

Dressed as a zombie before she was beaten to death? I'm not sure if that would be a CSI wet dream or nightmare.

Actually it has to do with being able to go outside after dark without being in fear for your life. All you guys that keep saying she should not have been out there are making excuses for the person that actually killed her.

I agree that there is is some odd psychology at work.

It is like when my daughter had her new (1 month old) bike stolen from the school yard. The Weeners from friends mouths was usually "Oh, that's too bad" quickly followed by "She shouldn't have taken a new bike to school." -- which somehow twists the issue that one should not have nice things and that my daughter somehow deserved to get her bike stolen.
