It's possible employers would pay employees more if the employer pays less in taxes, Sandvick said, and tangible goods could cost less because of lower corporate taxes.

People Who'd Pay Higher Taxes Under 9-9-9 Think They'd Pay Lower Taxes

Under 9-9-9, poor people pay higher taxes. Families making between $20,000 and $50,000 would see their annual tax bills go up by more than $3000. Families making more than $1 million would get tax cuts averaging out at $581,000.

Didn't Cain lay out a loophole to prevent this? Sort of. Two weeks ago he declared that, under 9-9-9, some blighted areas would be viewed as "empowerment zones," which some exemptions from 9-9-9. The key words are "blighted areas." Nowhere in Iowa is going to qualify as an empowerment zone.

Oh but they leave out that their employer would NOW be paying taxes on payroll where right now they do not. So they are stupid and wrong.

Under 999 business almost pay no taxes EXCEPT for payroll which right now is tax deductible. How would that help employment?

Oh, it's dumber than that,
"As late as Thursday afternoon, Cain's campaign website made only a few broad references to "empowerment zones," with specificity lacking. One late change the campaign made - with Cain's expressed approval - was to switch from the term "empowerment zones" to "opportunity zones." The Cain team decided the word "empowerment" is too closely associated with liberal politics."

I bet if you rephrased the question as "do you think a 27% national sales tax is a good idea", you would get a completely different answer. It's all about packaging.

2011-11-04 01:18:19 PM
There likely would be* three 9s as far as Iowa voters are concerned; Cain has only claimed he would remove all income taxes in the first phase from empowerment zones (of which there are currently none in Iowa), which he would rename opportunity zones because empowerment is too liberal a phrase. Instead of these areas receiving special government grants or tax credits, the individuals would not be subject to income taxes if they agree to suspend a number of regulations designed to protect workers or the environment in order to attract new companies into the area (the zones would have to get approval from the federal government that those changes would be significant enough to obtain the benefit.)

* - "likely would be" refers to the unlikely event a Cain Administration could EVER get such an overhaul passed.

Well isn't it obvious? No taxes means more profit. More profit means businesses will consider hiring people. It's not like they will sit on the money or shove it into offshore bank accounts, pretty much plugging up the trickle-down.

I don't care if Herman Cain had his genitals burned off in an industrial accident, thus preventing him from ever getting involved in a sex scandal,* he should never have been taken seriously as a presidential candidate based on his ideas and lack of understanding about what the job entails.

You got to love the comments in the article defending the 999 plan, especially this one.

This article is just another pile of false poo. Just because the media writes an article saying it is so, doesn't mean it is so. Replacing the HIDDEN 35% corporate tax with 9%, means you will now pay 26% LESS for your goods. The 9% sales tax is only applied to new goods... here is a clue... buy used, we do all the time. Thrift stores rock! 9% income tax is way better than the 25%-28% we are used to. Plus it gets rid of all the double and triple taxes on gifts and (when you die) your estate. Why not keep that money in the family or give to private charities? Why give it to the government where it will just disappear through the cracks and never help a single person. Stop accepting the fact that we are slaves to our government. The federal government is supposed to to serve us, the citizens.

Sorry buddy I'm not buying my food used.

So, Cain wants to dodge his past by talking about his idiotic idea that isn't going to get off the ground, even if he does get elected, instead of the fact that he settled on two sexual harrasment cases? The two sexual harrasment cases the media are talking about, instead of his failure that is the 999 plan.
