They might as well have shopped a troll face over the prophet's face.

I thought that magazine did it so they can get the insurance money. You know, like when somebody burns down his bar for the insurance and he makes it look like an electrical thing.

A while back there was the headscarf thing. Now this. The French have really gotten feisty with Islam over the past few years, haven't they?

So what, wait a few hundred years for them to grow out of their "inquisition" phase before it's safe to treat them like Christians?

""You keep abusing Islam's almighty Prophet with disgusting and disgraceful cartoons using excuses of freedom of speech."

That doesn't sound right, a religious wackjob wouldn't add that last bit. Sounds a bit fishy.

Islam doesn't really have the same tradition of religious satire that Christianity does. When all religious nut jobs can laugh at themselves, then the world will know peace.

Chicken? Egg?

Who the fark knows. I'm certainly not on the side of banning headscarves, but Islam needs to turn the volume down if they want to participate in a first world democracy.

The headscarf thing is one of the few things I disagree with Chris Hitchens on (he supports the ban), but this horseshiat of violently attacking media outlets that dare insult Mohammed is inexcusable. It's why so many European countries have tightened their immigration policies.

I'm going to have to invent a term for this... I'm going to call it faux-libertarianism. "Do whatever you want that doesn't hurt me, but you're not allowed to take offense from my actions."

I don't get why people who use free speech as a shield for insulting one's deeply held beliefs is surprised when one responds by using their free will to violently protest. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" might just be a lesson in courtesy, but don't forget courtesy is what keeps the other person from punching you in the f*cking face and laughing whenever they want, too.

Muslims must think God is a coward, as they are always standing in front of him fighting his battles. Apparently, in some of their twisted minds, an "insult" is intolerable, but Murder and Mayhem aren't??? Fighting for a coward may seem noble, but...yer just enabling the coward, man.

1) Responding to speech with violence is never permissible. It's part of being an adult.

2) Courtesy has nothing to do with exercising restraint. Civility, morality, or failing either of the foregoing, the rule of law hold far more sway. The pain of a punch won't last as long as an arrest record.

lolwut?

One does not use "free speech" to "violently protest". Those are 2 different things. Muslims are free to exercise their free speech in the US all they want. So are Christians. There is no right to violently protest.

From the Koran:

9:5 - "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."

8:39 "Fight them until all opposition ends and all submit to Allah."

Religion of Peace.

Same thing applies to the Bible, yes. All Abrahamic religions are farking violent xenophoboic reactionary motherfarkers. That's why they're so successful with us primates, because it's all farking monkey tribal bullshiat.

There is a huge difference between "taking offense" and "taking retribution." The former is entirely expected, predictable even, and is the stated desirable outcome for a troll. The latter is something no civilized society should ever tolerate.

Free will, not free speech. You shouldn't respond to speech with violence. That's not okay. But it CAN happen, and yelling "free speech!" doesn't help you when your office has been burned down. Unless it generates donations or something.

I'm certainly not defending setting fire to this place. But any time someone gets offended over something that's only maybe-offensive, a lot of people get bent out of shape about how the maybe-offending speech is necessary! and standing up for what's right! where instead, maybe just because you have the right to piss someone off doesn't mean you should do it.

Dafatone: just because you have the right to piss someone off doesn't mean you should do it.

That's your point? Okay, that's a fair enough point. It in no way justifies the "violent protest" though.

OTOH, these violent protests that we've seen from the muslim community not only justify but demand speech against them.

LOL @ Islam apologists. The Bible is filled with parables and stories whose conclusions are peaceful. If you read the Koran, there is no story. It is a rule book, and the rules are listed clearly: Wage endless war against the non-believers. Slit their throats, rape their women and make them slaves, unless they convert. If you defend this as a western liberal, you are the worst and most pathetic kind of traitor we have.
