That was very cool. Whale watchers on the Oregon Coast wait for hours, just hoping to see a whale breaching & these folks had a front row seat.

I don't know if you have Legal Seafoods where you are but they have some funny commercials...here's one that reminds me of this: Seagulls looking for good fish. (new window)

I'm pretty sure you'll get a kick out of it.

I've never heard of the place, but that's a funny commercial.

You've just been swallowed by a whale in the bay-what do you do?
You grab your iPhone 4GS and start to dial, but thanks to AT&T you have NO BARS!
You remember the Flashlight App you purchased from the APP Store for $4.99 and you scramble to hit the button.
SPLASH! The light fills the fish riddled cavity of the whale's belly, and then-ZIP! Your battery dies.

Priceless!

Getting to watch whales eating. That's pretty cool.

Getting eaten by a baleen whale?
Yeah.
Right.

/facepalm

Intentionally, no. It is certainly possible to unintentionally be taken into its mouth, but I don't know enough about whale anatomy to know if you could be swallowed.

2011-11-04 08:42:22 AM
Fake. The whale was obviously in on the setup.

2011-11-04 08:44:29 AM
I probably shouldn't have been expecting a real whale attack. It's still pretty cool...I guess

Certainly raises an interesting question . . . could the whale unintentionally eat you? If so, would it have the awareness to gag and spit you out? We need some tests . . . any volunteers??

She couldn't zoom in on the chick who paddled out on the surfboard?

Hey, like you would say no to free food.

The whales were just chasing their meal (the school of fish). The seagulls have been on to this for a few million years and hang around where they see the whales feeding. Whatever fish get stunned or injured or killed but not consumed in the attack become a meal for the seagulls.

I'm sure the whales were fully aware of the position of the humans. Notice they came close, but never even overturned the boats. I think 2 or 3 20-ton mammals could have more effectively attacked the humans if they chose to.

Nature is awesome! Beautiful video, btw.

2011-11-04 10:40:27 AM
very good video still believe its possible to get eaten mistakenly by a whale but they will spit out when you freak and start to move cause baleen don't eat human sized fish

2011-11-04 11:14:43 AM
Stupid seagulls... A) they were too late and missed the whales.. B) no way in hell they could have made off with the whales if they got there in time.

You are supposed to keep 300 meters away from those guys.

As a guy who has spent his entire life living on land, I have to say. ARE YOU FARKING INSANE?

*Anti-shark cage. You go inside the cage? Cage goes in the water? You go in the water? Shark's in the water? Our shark? [singing] Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again.
