We should get our asses to Mars and pick it up.

And the trip should last two weeks.

Make sure you have the party crash due to incorrect unit types in the navigation system's programing (Lbs instead of Newtons especially) if they are trying to land in the south polar region.

\wait that gave me an idea that involves The Thing and the Polar Lander in an Eclipse phase game or a Cyberpunk 2020 space expansion

actually, I have a plan for what's going to happen to them....and it kind of all depends on how they handle things from the first game session.

I think if one of those mobile things is in the last known area of some of the old stuff, they should try to find it and get some pictures.

Probably not... There's only so much time and they probably want to spend every precious second studying the planet itself, not the crap we sent to land on it.

When it takes almost a year just to go a mile or two, and the crash sites are hundreds of miles apart, its probably not possible.
Even when humans get there, its not like they'll have the time for this.

Its going to be hundreds of years from now after Mars is terraformed.
Some kid's going to be digging in the dirt, behind his families homestead, when he uncovers a wrinkled piece of foil and goes running inside to ask his Mom what "U.S.A." means.

Is anyone else looking at this map and mentally placing all the cities from Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy?

/Start with Underhill
//Tempted to re-read the trilogy for the fiftieth or so time now

This just took me back to the last chapter of The Martian Chronicles.

Well, now I don't feel bad for the guy, because he's got lots of friends now, so he'll never be alone.
