with enough user mods, I'm sure the computer could play the game for you.

Even he can play this game and I can't get a group of PUG's to clear trash without dying like morans.

I recharge my WoW account every time they come out with an update, play a little here and there until I reach the new level cap, then quit again. I solo most of the time, since it's hard to get into a guild with this method, so I've never done a raid or any of the heroic stuff. I don't even know what people in articles are talking about half the time. Every 18 months I have to remember how to play, basically.

All that said, I am utterly amazed at the degree to which WoW has become near-science to many of these people. The precision, the vocabulary, the choreography that goes into some of these encounters is astonishing to me.

"Well I use this mod for to chime a bell when I'm standing too close to another player, and of course I have this mod that does this and that, and as everyone knows when you cast this spell it swivels you around to face the target, which helpful, versus this other spell that shoots out in a straight line to the target, etc etc etc."

"It's hard, but it helps that are pulls are well-planned. I know when my warriors are going to be over there instead of over there, depending on what the boss combos with. I mean if he does Deadly Blast of Arcana, then of course I'm going to have do a swift Spell of Mending followed by a Incanta Prayer to the main and tertiary tanks. We have another healer that handles the secondary tank, of course yadda yadda yadda"

Mind boggling stuff.

Dumb is the old school way of saying mute. It's also probably a Helen Keller reference.

Well, given that healing is all about mashing all of your heal spells with no rhyme or reason, this is not surprising.

ARGH, I miss Vuhdo and Deadly Boss Mods. Need some soon for Rift. I think it's awesome that his prog raid group doesn't seem to see an issue with having him along for the ride, he must be a good player. Also, if his disease is progressive as well and he's known these folks for a while, well, you don't just drop someone, man.

Good lawd, there are people that don't get the "Tommy" reference? Um, they made a movie out of it...Elton John? Tina Turner?

Ah, gotcha. No facepalm here, just no interest in The Who. Not all nerds like 40 year old rock. Hell, today the adornment of 60's-70's era rock by the young is more of an old cliche than a reality.

pudding7: Mind boggling stuff.

It's pretty much just one addon(deadly boss mods), and sometimes healbot or a damage per second meter. Also, in the next patch(4.3, prolly still a month or two out) they're making a raid finder tool. Basically you join a queue, and it finds a raid group for you. The encounters are easier, and the loot isn't quite as good, but it allows casuals(like yourself) to check out all the cool new stuff. Heroics act the same way now, except they're the same difficulty as if you found a guild group.

Doesn't mean much to me because all I do is PvP, but it sounds like a good deal for people who don't have time for raid guilds.

I may be a lazy farker, but I kind of hate it when a game becomes... well, like work. These people plan a raid with more precision than my boss and I use to plan a major lab project. I like to go home and get away from that for a bit.

Aphoticamy: Rift

God I loved Rift when I first started playing, but around level 15 it was so mind numbling repetitive I couldn't keep going. I love premise/lore, the 3 class sytem is great, Rift fights are some of the most fun things I've done in ANY mmo, but it's just the same thing over and over and over. I know that's a weird thing to say about an MMO but the excitement just faded so rapidly. It started to feel like an "MMO Simulator" for lack of a better explanation. The game just has no soul to speak of. Couple that with everyone talking about how their was no end game I just couldn't go on. I really wanted something to be my bridge between WoW and ToR but Rifts just wasn't it, and I would've really liked it to be. The setup is their, but the execution fell apart. I believe it's fixable, but it's not just there right now.

You only got to lvl 15? Of course there is endgame, I'm bewbs-deep in endgame content right now. It will just be a matter of expansions, and I'm sure they'll come up with those. They keep it fresh, the graphics are BEAUTIFUL, the raiding is challenging but fun, there is just so much to do.
Rift > WoW imho AT LEAST FOR NOW--I am notoriously fickle when it comes to these things. I played FFXI for about a year, I played WoW for around 9 months before I decided I hated Cat and dropped it, didn't play anything for a while. I've been pretty heavily into this game for a while now, and I'm in a pretty close-knit progressive guild and I'm playing a class that is very versatile so I'm never bored. I really can't say enough good about it, honestly. It does help if you end up on a server that's not full of shiatheads. :-)

Not for Raid healing. Holy is the spec you use for raid healing. Disc is for tank healing. Not saying that it CANNOT be done any other way, just that there is an optimal spec for each.

...

I was always holy, but I'm positive that every other priest healer I knew who had adored disc in Wrath had to switch to holy for the beginning of raiding in cata. By 4.1 I think either the disc players had adjusted or enough changes were made that it wasn't as painful as it had been, but I know that my friends felt that disc was unplayable for a little bit there.

I haven't really played much in the last few months. I miss raiding, but now I'm so far behind in gear it's just not worth it to me to try to catch up again. Can't wait until TOR, though!

Before WoW, I played an MMO around 1999-2001, one of the guys had no use of his hands. He had to blow in a tube to click, and to type as well onto an on-screen keyboard. He was a great player, and had a lot of friends.

It's amazing how social games can really help people feel connected, who might not otherwise get the chance to meet or talk to people.

Heck, a disc priest was *required* on heroic 25man LK. I quit when Cata was released so I can't say anything abut it there.

My blind and semi-crippled mother plays the Discworld MUD. Since she has so much trouble walking, she doesn't get out of the house much. She's been playing for about 4 years now. She can't see graphics at all, but the text format of MUDs works well with her screen reader. I turned my mother into a hardcore gamer. She's also a hardcore RPer, but I forgive her for that.

I couldn't get into WoW. I played Lineage2 for 4 years, then Aion for the last two. On hiatus from MMOs for now.

While it's great that he gets to play and all, he's doing it using vuhdoo. It dumbs down healing so much that it requires the brain power of a porcini mushroom to be effective at healing.

Seriously though, it's good that he gets access to the same mental crack as everyone else. Too bad for him the current expansion is woeful.

I view raids as a colossal waste of time. Srs Bznz raiders actually sit with spreadsheets and work out spell rotations. They speed level through each expansion and make pugs miserable for the casual players. It was seriously un-fun for about 8 months after Cata came out and I avoided pugs like the plague. Now, they are fun again because the raiders are making each other miserable in their little ghetto.

That said, yet another guy with a female character. As some guy said on Durotan, when asked for a definition of MMORPG said, "Many Men Online, Role Playing Girls."

That's a girl goblin/gnome? I can't tell. You speaketh the truth, however: my guild probably has 40ish members and only around a 1/2 dozen of us are actually women, although there are a lot more female characters. I did have a guildie in WoW that was a young, very pretty female and she had a male draenei character. :-)
