He clearly needs to not fark harder, because whatever he's doing now doesn't seem to be pleasing God.

FTFA: You can be an atheist and still accept the fact that if he were a Jew, he would essentially be the Jewish Eric Crouch. And you can bet that because he would not be imbued with such surpassing hype, such soaring expectations, or such early responsibility, nobody would be making fun of his religion on the field.

i.imgur.com

That's because if you're Jewish, they drop it in personal conversation and governing meetings rather than on television.

OTOH, 42-year-old virgins should be stoned for the good of society. Can you think of a group of people with less positive contribution to life? The highest position one can hope to achieve is kiddie-diddler priest. Juggalos, tattoo-faces and derping teabaggers are model citizens in comparison.

Keep your religion out of my sports Mr. Tebow.

...and Tebow is a terrible QB that doesn't have the requisite intelligence needed to be an adequate NFL QB. Read a defense? No way. God will guide my legs and part the left tackle and guard allowing me to run through and be with Jesus in the endzone.

2011-11-03 12:20:30 PM
But more, the Lions openly mocked Tebow, who had suddenly dropped to one knee to pray during his comeback against Miami, which immediately became an Internet meme called "Tebowing."

Pretty sure that was a meme before the Lions game, though that picture makes me laugh every time.

And so while it seems obvious, it is clear that were Tebow not an outspoken Christian, none of this would be happening.

Right. That's why outspoken Christian Brett Favre was mocked relentlessly for his religion and support for a bigoted organization and not because he has a tiny penis that ESPN loves to fellate.

Every athlete that ostentatiously points to the sky or thanks god for a win needs a kick in the groin. What kind of a religious person are you that you appreciate god helping you convert a third down while ignoring all of the mass rapes and genocide and starvation all over the planet? What kind of pretentious douche are you?

If you have watched Tebow play - if you have watched him struggle to handle pressure, to make accurate passes, to make the knife-and-fork-plays that an NFL quarterback must make - then it would be hard to argue.

A 'knife and fork play nfl football' Google search points to TFA first. What is he talking about?

From the context of the article I assume "bread and butter" or "meat and potatoes"....i.e. basic, fundamental.

It means he uses the bread knife to cut his steak and his salad fork to eat soup.

He's not mocked for being religious, he's mocked for heavily interjecting his religious views into his sport. If he was an atheist and screamed "There is no god!" after every touchdown but then started to play terribly, do you think opposing players and disappointed fans would not jump on that to mock him?

2011-11-03 01:07:34 PM
If there is a god(s), I highly doubt they give a shiat about touchdowns or sports, in general...

24 year old virgins should always be mocked. You're missing out on your prime "fark years", Chief.

Oh, that's a funny image. How about just pointing a finger at the sky then shaking it in a "No" gesture?

It's like religion, because it is largely about religion.

No, sh*t for brains it isn't. Tons of players are very openly religious. Troy Polamalu graduated with a degree in religious studies, Steve Johnson credited God with his performance against the Steelers last season, dozens of kickers point to the heavens after making a game winning field goal with 0 seconds left on the clock. It isn't about religion. It is about Tebow's ineptitude in spite of all the hype, it is about him being a Gator (not everyone is a Gator fan), it is about him being a Bronco (not everyone is a Bronco fan), it is about his particular brand of shameless religious whoring (cutting the dicks of babies, an anti-abortion commercial with his mom for the superbowl).

Now, mocking a man's religion is dangerous territory.

No, it isn't. It's justified, as is mocking any other pseudo-rational belief someone may have, whether it be gay being a choice or the moon landing being a hoax. And it isn't like this country doesn't consistently mock religious beliefs all the time. Ask Muslims how much respect Islam is treated in the United States relative to Christianity. Ask Jews how often Judaism gets the same deference as Christianity. Ask Mormons how their branch of Christianity is treated relative to Protestantism. Ask pedophiles how often Catholicism is mocked. Mocking religion is like mocking any other kind of belief.

Dear National Post,

Please stop writing about one relatively young, moderately talented NFL player as "the biggest story in American sports." And stop describing him as "imbued with such surpassing hype, such soaring expectations, or such early responsibility" when there are younger, higher-drafted and better quarterbacks in the NFL right now. Stop making him out to be any different from any of the other former college superstars with questionable NFL potential, who are kind of a dime a dozen. When you do those things, I might stop feeling irrationality compelled to take him down a peg.

Sincerely, the Internet

I love how the author opens with, its about religion. Its not about religion. not for me at least. Its about a sub par QB getting treated like an allstar. Supplanting a QB who was excellent last year, and for what, the whim of an obviously retarded fan base. Religion isnt an issue here. Except that maybe the only reason he had so much support in the first place was because of religion. The issue is, Tebow is shiat. And yet somehow got treated like a hero for doing nothing.

There are countless sports stars that mention God with every other sentence. Many of them are commended, followed, and supported by millions of fans.

Tim Tebow made a superbowl commercial about one of the three or four most controversial issues in American society and politics. That tends to polarize people.

Combine that with college rivalries fueling hype and hatred, a widely held belief that he is overhyped for his talents, and there is more than enough fuel for the persecution fire.

He should be commended for walking a straight line and continuing to put on a smile and say oddly uplifting things in the face of adversity....his supporters, though, have turned in to slobbering retards that can't admit he's playing bad and have to turn it in to a hatred for Christianity.

With that in mind, maybe he is the messiah. Pretty cool and down to earth, but his followers can be real nutjobs.

As much as I dislike Tim as a person and a football player, I agree. And, as a thread a few below this one says, even Tebow doesn't think Tulloch was mocking his faith.

Also, seriously, does anyone who fellates him actually watch him play?

He overthrows people by 10 yards, has a delivery that is twice as long as it should be, and struggles to read defenses.

Why ask that on Fark? I don't think I've read anyone say he's a great pro. What you should really ask is, "You just said Kyle Orton is excellent. You know how I know you've never watched him play?" or "You really think the guy who was Tebow before Tebow was Tebow, Captain Couragous, The Noodle, The Qb who plays like his arm is afflicted with Alien Hand Syndrome, Brady Quinn is the answer?"

You need to step back and take a deep breath.

Calm down. It was a lame joke. But considering the Panthers' record I don't think Cam is worthy of much mention. He has great stats for a rookie, but he and his team can't seem to seal the deal. That's kind of a big deal in the NFL. Dalton, on the other hand, has done a f*ck ton for the Bengals and I'm legitimately impressed.

GimpyNip: vinnydoz007: Its about a sub par QB getting treated like an allstar.

What all-star gets two starts and then a vote of no confidence? What all-star has spent the past two weeks getting dragged out of the drainage pipe and through the sports medias proverbial streets of Libya on the hood of the hate-wagon? Which one? The amazing thing about Tebow is that his very existence has spawned more myths than the bible: Such as but not limited to:
"Kyle Orton is excellent!"
"John Fox isn't a sub par coach despite being 1 game over .500 and 4-20 in the past two seasons!"

"The media is praising tebow and thats why I hate him...even though every single analyst says he won't make it!"
"All fans do is praise Tebow and talk about Tebow. My self-rightous indignation > Tebow. Tebowing, Tebows!"

OccupyTebow, he gets 99% of the hate and 1% of the love. The reality is, the nicest thing that anybody has even said about the guy in the ;past few weeks is, "the Broncos suck, may as well give him a few starts. Orton's contract is up and they weren't winning with him anyway...which is weird because he's "excellent"."

Where were you for the months of fellating him for nothing? Did you see what the media wrote about him after the Miami game. They were acting like he was a hero. Im sorry, but Tebow has gotten far too much credit to this point. And the only reason it bothers me, is because Orton deserves to be treated better. And hes being screwed over. Why? Not because Tebow is good, but because he has legions of fans supporting him for no good reason. Sorry buddy, but i disagree. The Broncos have problems all over the field, and to bench Orton for that is bullshiat. You wanna defend Tebow be my guest. Ill defend the Vet who played great football last year, over this over rated piece of crap who only has loads of support because he wields his religion like a weapon.

Fair enough. I've had the flu for the past few days and it's been f*cking with my head a little bit, so I not only thought my joke was funny but I'm having a harder time than usual detecting sarcasm on the internet. Either way, I stand by my comment about Cam Newton. I agree Dalton should be getting more press, but I'll disagree with you on Newton. I think he's gotten pretty much the amount of press he has earned, which is still a lot relative to the other rookie QBs.
