That's a great idea, but my freezer is currently stuff with food so I'll run out and buy one of those small basement freezers and use that. I think those only cost a few hundred a year in coal-burning electrical costs to operate.

This is what we Canadians look forward to in the dead of winter.

Running down to the freezer in the morning to put on an ice cold pair of freshly cleaned pants, and venturing out into -20 temperatures. I'm surprised it's taken you Americans so long to catch up.

This is one of the silliest ideas I've heard of. And weave has explained why. I wouldn't put *my* jeans in the freezer I put food in.

To customers seeking further advice, Levi Strauss suggests washing jeans rarely, if at all - the theory being that putting them in the freezer will kill germs that cause them to smell.

Doesn't the freezer just slow down the germs?

I just bought a pair of 501xx (shrink to fit) . Was reading a website on how to break them in, guy said he wore his everyday for year only washing them once.

/I'm not that dedicated to my jeans.

If these pants shrink too much, I wont be having any children.

But I am getting propositioned more often:

I live in an area that gets over 45 inches of rain per year. There is a very large river just a few miles away. If there are any problems with water, it is because there is too much of it.

I'm gonna keep washing my pants.

Freezing them may or may not kill the germs, but it definitely doesn't get the dirt and stains out.

That's always been my complaint with the idea. I'm not washing them because they're bacterial and smelly, I'm washing them because they're dirty and the interior is caked with my own skin and oil.

We don't know what to do with all the water we have here. Maybe this is good advice out west, but we in the Northeast are gonna keep washing our clothes you dirty hippies.

Do you think the water and soap in the washing machine can't get inside the jeans when inside out?

It's not the soap and water; it's the friction against the agitator that ruins the color.

Maybe he/she thinks the indigo color is printed on the outside of the denim - like a T-shirt decal.

I'm all about water conservation. I'm the type that saves my water from boiling eggs to water my plants with. I don't flush the toilet every time I pee. I do a lot of the little things that I feel a person can do to reduce his or her water usage without going totally crazy.

I'm not freezing my farking jeans. I go to bars to listen to music. I walk all over town. I sit in my farty chair for hours on end. I'm not worried about getting rid of the bacteria. I want the ass juice, drunkard sweat, cigarette stink, and asphalt oil off of them.

If it doesn't smell, why wash it?

2011-11-03 03:32:47 PM
The alternative might be buying three or four pairs of regular consumer-grade jeans for the same price as the ridiculously priced "boutique" ones and washing them on a regular basis like a normal person and tossing them when a hole finally develops to far that they can't be worn in public anymore.

I know....blasphemy.

The day I spend a c-note on a pair of jeans is the day I start wearing shorts year round.

I wash my jeans after each wearing. The only things I don't wash after each wearing are dry-clean only skirts or dresses (yeah, right, I was those too, just less often) and sweaters I wear a top under. Socks, underwear, and t-shirts all are washed after each wearing.

I wash my coats a couple times a year, too. I like for my clothes to smell and look clean.

Do you wash your sheets every day? What about your coat, or your gloves, or your hat? No, you don't because that would be stupid.

The warmers have convinced yet another company that the AGW scam is real. Too bad that there really is no water shortage or AGW.

No..I also don't fart thru the fabric of my gloves or hat... perhaps you do. In which case, you should wash them after every wear.

Call me stupid, but doesn't it require water to freeze something?

2011-11-03 03:40:52 PM
Wow, the derp is strong.

Freezing won't get rid of the body oils you've deposited in the fabric - it will only kill (some of) the bacteria that are eating it.

Those bacteria float around in the air, so they'll only come back as soon as you wear them, and your body heat will "wake up" the ones dormant that the freeze didn't kill.
