But all that work he's done to make Florida more business friendly surely can't have failed, could it?
On a side note, I thought he "sold" the company to his wife or something?

In April, he announced he was selling his interest, which happened in late June when a New York investment company bought him out.
Never mind.

Yes. I still stand by my assertion that we need manufacturing and not healthcare.
At least East TN is starting to catch on.

Couple problems with this is that with a strong dollar, it more encourages imports than exports. Exports boom on a weak dollar as it means foreign buyers are essentially getting a comparative bargain. But a weak dollar essentially means it takes more money to buy imports, and since the vast portion of our economy is consumer driven, all those cheap electronics start to go up in price, out of season fruits and vegetables go up in price, oil prices go up, etc etc. Another thing to remember is that if we say, tried to open an electronic manufactoring plant here in the USA, the product would be vastly more expensive than a product produced by cheap labor. If Globalization were to end tomorrow, a lot of those nice toys and what not would be forced out of the average buyer range. Only way this is going to change is when transportation costs start to outweigh production costs, but it will still be painful to the average consumer.

Yeah, but not Lex Luthor, Luthor's too smart. More like Boris Badenov without the heavy accent.

Yeah, this shouldn't be a surprise any more than hearing that an advertising firm is moving its HQ from Cincinnati to New York.
That said,
SPC
has a point in that Nashville should be careful about relying so heavily on one industry. Will healthcare become obsolete? No, but the dynamics of that industry could change almost overnight (a new or changed technology, policy, you never know) and Nashville is nowhere near large enough to absorb even moderate layoffs from such a large sector. It doesn't have to be manufacturing, but diversification isn't a bad idea.

Don't think Tennessee has a state income tax, like Florida, and as the article said their operations would be cheaper by co-locating with all the other health insurance firms.

You know, I read that correctly and still misunderstood. I parsed the clause wrong. I inserted a mental "does" -- "like Florida
does
."

This is the most flagrant example of un-prosecuted graft since the Halliburton/Dick Cheney presidency.

What a turd.
They're congratulate each other on their "victories" even as the state burns around them. Look at Scott's butt-buddy, Kasich in Ohio. He has made quite clear his intent to gut the state of everything remotely good in the name of "the budget". And yet I know rubes who think that it's solely about "the budget" when in reality it's all about, you guessed it, politics and ideology.

America: part masochism, part Stockholm Syndrome.
This entire country has been conditioned for decades into a bunch of stockholm syndrome patients. They've come to love their jailer while at the same time getting off on the pain that is inflicted upon them by their jailer.
They are the battered wife saying "if I go back to him, maybe then he'll stop beating me."
