63, ya, but I prefer the 67 tripower L88. Car looked better, imho, and they underrated the HP by over 100 because of insurance, which is just cool

I can understand putting something between 1970 and 2011 so it didn't look like they sat on their hands for 41 years.

But the 2008 Malibu? Really?

Well, the reason for the '08 Malibu is as follows:

From the beginning of '85 through '05 Chevy had a cheap manufacturing, cheap material, low quality feel and reputation to them. Especially when comparing them to other vehicles of the same class, size, ect.

The '08 Malibu actually got great reviews (from some of chevy's biggest critics even) and was seen as a major improvement over the "crap" Chevy was pumping out over the last 20 years.

I agree, but I can't think of anything really revolutionary from the brand since their early failures in FWD and smaller models. Besides predictable performance upgrades every year from the Corvette, what was there?

Personally, I'm going with the 90hp 1982 "Iron Duke" Camaro. How did they make a Camaro so slow?

Even better, that one's a Corsa, though it's not possible to tell whether that was the 140-hp 4-carb version or the 180-hp turbo.

What a shame GM had chintzed out on the '60-'64 models... except on the Spyder, they omitted a transverse leaf spring from the original swing-axle rear suspension. This led to all sorts of spooky handling problems if you didn't keep an eagle eye on your tire pressures, and gave Nader all the ammo he needed to trash the car. The '65-'69 fully independent rear suspension was a huge improvement, but it was already too late.

Still, muscle cars like the Mustang and Camaro did more to kill the Corvair than Nader could do. Even with the 140 and 180-hp engines, it couldn't compete on a drag strip against a V8. Emission controls were the coup de grace, and we then ended up with the Vega for a small Chevy.

I don't understand why you have people insisting that Chevy is shiat, every Chevy they've ever had was an unreliable p.o.s. and at the same time, people insisting that Ford is shiat, every Ford they've ever had was an unreliable p.o.s. They can't both be right

Yes they can. When you buy a car, you roll the dice. Some people keep rolling snake eyes.

FINALLY! A "Best of Chevy" list that includes my Corvair! It seems like all these goddam lists always ignore what was easily the best-looking Chevy of the era, if not all time, in favor of slobbering all over the blandly-styled Corvette. No less an authority than Car & Driver said of the '65 Corvair: "And it is here too, that we have to go on record and say that the Corvair is - in our opinion - the most important new car of the entire crop of '65 models, and the most beautiful car to appear in this country since before World War II."

And while I'm on my soapbox, there's too many goddam Mustangs in the world! Every time a movie or TV show wants to give a character some easy credibility, they have him drive an old Mustang. Out of all the classic cars available, they just go to the studio lot and grab one of the (apparently) dozens of Mustangs sitting around. WTF is that all about?

I drive a fairly broad selection of compact-to-midsize rentals, and I can say that the new Malibu is amazing considering its many generations of dog-sh*t predecessors. I put 800 miles on one last month and was thoroughly impressed with just about everything, up to and including 34 average mpg with AC running. No comparison whatsoever to the old Malibu, Lumina, whatever.

That cannot be said for many cars I drive, including, unfortunately, the Chrysler 200. Lame.

I had an '86 Silverado in gold metallic, best bench seat in the world. Then I went to a '91 Beretta GT and had way to much fun in that car, then an '88 Buick Regal coupe which went way to fast, then back to a '91 Silverado I'd bought but lent to my grandmother to drive on the farm.

Drive either an '02 Monte Carlo SS or my '91 Silverado up here in Alaska now.

63 Impala. Keystones on 60 series, air shocks - totally inappropriate for a single barrel six with three on the tree, but it was done in Corvette metal flake deep blue with a white roof and it was a beautiful big fun party wagon.

Wow, that's spot on what I think. I recently had a Cruze for a week too and it was amazing for a small car. It blew the Corolla and Civic away.

I also agree on the 200. I had to drive one an hour out from Philly on bad roads. It actually made me carsick as I drove it.

THIS. I had a 95 lumina. Absolute piece of shiat. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and they didn't give a crap. All they said was 'you bought it, it's yours' and that it was OK that i had so many problems because the average dissatisfied customer only told 8 people that they had problems with their car, so it wasn't worth it to fix it.

I'll never give GM another dime.

I'm shopping for a 65+ project now. Let me tell you, it's proving hard to find one somewhere in the middle. They are all either well-cared / already restored or complete rust buckets. I want one I can actually do the work on myself. 64 and earlier on the other hand are a dime a dozen.

I've had my '65 for over 15 years... it's a 110 hp champagne gold convertible, and it was a beater when I got it. I'm not surpised the old ones are cheap now, they're nice and and all, but the late models blow them away in pretty much every aspect. Good luck with your search!

It's probably a little rich for your blood considering you want something in the middle of rust bucket/complete car:

Brand new shells (new window)

I'm currently plotting and scheming to get my hands on one of those 1969 fastback models. Nothing like a completely new 1969 Mustang with all of the great suspension and technology improvements. I'd put a Boss 302 crate motor in one with a Tremec T-56.
