Fark off PETA, I had a pretty nice mullet in college. If I want to toss my hair around, I will.

Went every year as a kid. Fried mullet's good eating.

Huh. I came here to make a crappie pun, but they actually are talking about the fish.

So, is it still ok to chop up a live mullet for bait? Or stick a hook through a whole live mullet for live bait? Or am I simply capturing, degrading, humiliating, torturing and killing one form of sea kitten in order to capture, degrade, humiliate, torture, kill then consume another type of sea kitten?

/Mmmmm.... sea kittens....

On the other hand, since girls mostly won't tatoo "I'm batshiat crazy" on their foreheads, a PETA membership is a pretty good clue.

I have been an active PETA member for almost a decade. As a group, we have saved whales from poachers, stopped the fashion fur trade, exposed the ill health effects of a carnivorous diet, and brought to the foreground the plight of test animals. I am proud of my membership, and I do not understand why some people mock the group and its members. We have only one goal - to prevent the cruelty of animals by way of human education. How could you be against that?

I urge you to sign up for the group here: Action Team Sign-Up

We are planning national events for the upcoming Christmas season. By signing up, you will receive not only news updates, but calls to action. You can share the spirit embodied in such causes as the Occupy Wall Street movement and all others who stand up for the rights of the innocents. Please, if you want to help, take the first step.

So is PETA made up entirely of angry lesbians and spentmiles?

I would never eat them because growing up I heard them called "turd mullet" so it didn't sound so appetizing.

On the one hand, I realize that the fish are already dead so it's not that huge a deal. If the fish weren't tortured or anything, it's not like they really care anymore.

One the other hand, it's one of those things that's just plain goddamn stupid and I refuse to defend it on the grounds that I won't stand up for idiots doing dumb things.

So, yea... I'll call this a push and say I don't give a shiat, but I hope somebody gets a disease from one of the dead fish just for being so dim-witted.

My issue isn't with the ethical treatment of animals, but the shrill methods by which the group makes its points and the inherent hypocrisy of PETA running various kill shelters. Like Penn and Teller, I would kill every single chimpanzee in the world if it would save the life of one homeless crackhead.

Shrill methods? Do you realize that I could show you a picture of hundreds of mutilated, tortured, degraded animals and it wouldn't even phase you? You would probably think, oh now that looks tasty. Our methods have to be shrill because meat-murder is so ubiquitous in our society that grocery stores publish horror-core-pornographic pictures of dead animals in their coupon fliers. How do you reach a society that has strayed that far from the natural order of the world? It's sickening.

OK, serious question for a PETA person:

If the fish is already dead, how is using it in a toilet toss (or whatever) cruel? Is it Stupid? Granted. Undignified? Obviously. I don't see the cruelty.

PETA can be pretty goofy, but the prevention of needless cruelty is completely laudable. I wouldn't be too pleased if this were some animal-torture thing. Based on this article, though, I don't see it.

I wouldn't, I like chimpanzees and dont like homeless people. However, I would kill every member of PETA for a homeless person. The real PETA members, that is, not just the ones that signed up and got a flier.

Basically, to understand our position, replace "animal" with "human baby". Would you be okay with people throwing dead human babies into toilets for amusement? No, you wouldn't, because it's abuse of a corpse, it's sickening, it's unnecessary. Just because the animal is dead doesn't mean it should be disrespected. Treat everything, living and non-living, with the same respect you'd treat yourself. Try it - next time you are eating murder-meat, imagine it's human baby flesh. Not very appetizing is it?

slight threadjack. To this day sits on my desk a coffee mug with a photo of a crappie on it. The reason? I was in Bass Pro Shops killing a lunch break about 10 years ago and saw mugs with photos of fish on them bass trout you name it they had it. But the price placard in front of the crappie mug read "CRAPPIE COFFEE MUG $8.00" I just knew I had to have it.
