I watch an interesting TV show about the nature and tactics of advertising called The Gruen Transfer. One episode was about how razors are marketed, and apparently Gillette realized that their product only was purchased by 50% of the population. Perhaps if they could get women to shave they could make more money. But what have women got to shave? Oh yeah.... all of the places men have hair too, but don't shave. Now I don't give a crap if you shave or not, but the idea that women should shave their pits was one made by a company that wanted to sell more razors.

The "pit hair" looked kind of fake, glued on, in fact. I'm afraid my perception of women with armpit hair has been skewed by the razor-industrial-complex, so I'm not sure. But seriously, it is kind of ridiculous that we (American) males, interested in women for procreation and sexual recreation would be put off by underarm but not pubic hair? Odd that.
