In other news, a NIU linebacker demonstrated that he could almost take a Huskies band member, but instead opted for a illegal blind-side strike, so the only tackle of the night by that schmuck couldn't be included in his official stats.

This is what should have happened in the Cal/Stanford game way back when...

I can attest to this type of shenanigans from NI. That team has/always will be a POS. They play as dirty as they can against Toledo every year.. It's a bigger game (IMO as a UT Grad) than the UT/BG Rival game.. Screw Northern Illinois... Screw them to hell..

Best arena football game I've seen in a while.

It looked like the band member was the one in the way of the football team. The player didn't seem to go out of his way to run into them.

The third guy by, yeah you with the woodwind(clarinet), should have grabbed his facemask and made it a team issue.

I'm not an NIU student nor am I an alumni, but I do live in Dekalb and watch their games. I've never really known them as a team that plays dirty. In all honesty you just sound like you're angry because Toledo lost even though they scored 60 points.

the sound of Rocket butthurt is sweet music to this NIU grad....

Bowl eligible! thanks Toledo!

That video had some irritating background music. And that band member was the only one in a Toledo uniform that slowed down NIU all night.

The music made it seem like some 80's movie where the geek gets creamed by the big jock type guy and then sets up some revenge of the nerds type shiat.

Are you kidding? The guy left his feet to blast into him.

I don't know what was worse, the music or the absolute horseshiat quality of the video.

make me proud NIU!

/only went to one game while there.

Yeah. the guy actually jumped to hit the band member. But then again, most footballers are little more than thugs in uniform so it is to be expected.

2011-11-03 09:17:38 AM
It would have been great if the band rushed the field and started kicking ass at will. First this guy, then any of his fellow players who came to his aid. A boot stomping so hard that their spats would be flying off. Also, the music in that video sucked!

2011-11-03 09:26:27 AM
Understandably, the mother of the unlucky band member expressed sympathy for her son.

And still no real word on whether that Arkansas special teamer with the stupid ass name was suspended for HIS incredibly stupid hit and post-ejection taunting.

Thank you for filling me with confidence about your swift justice, NCAA.

Yeah, well most band members are undersexed morons, so he deserved to get hit.

he deserved to get hit for being undersexed?
if anything the guy deserves a hug if that is true.

I guess you missed the part where the NIU player was suspended by his coach and not the NCAA.

/Marquel Wade should've played his last down of football. If Petrino doesn't have the stones to do it, the SEC league office should.

Poor form tackling. No wonder they surrendered 60 points -- wrap him up!

Actually, I dug how the other band member jumped to block anyone else from hitting the guy that was down.

It kinda looks like a chick that he ran into. Sounds like this guy is on the fast track to the NFL if he beats on women.

The band member is clearly trying to get off the field. So the show ran late, probably because of a tv timeout or other non-band related issue. They can only move as fast as the person in front of them. You see this all the time--football players who are so fired-up they can't possibly be expected to control their own bodies. Should the band member have been there? Probably not. Is it necessary to punish a 105lb. clarinet player simply because the trumpet solo went long? Probably not. Maybe the football players should spend less time dead-lifting trains and play a game or two of Red-Light/Green-Light.

Looked like a piccolo player but your arguement is no less valid.

As a former member of the Stanford Band, I've got a few thoughts about this...

1) Say what you will about the Stanford Band, we DO occasionally learn from our mistakes. Post-82, we know better than to be anywhere NEAR a football team when they're on the field. They're big, they're padded, and they will fark you up. In fact, when Stanford won the Big Game in 1990, one of the contributing factors was the fact that a) Cal fans stupidly rushed the field with 15 seconds left in the game, while b) the Stanford Band stoically stood behind the end zone, refusing to be taunted onto the field. 'Cause we're smarter :)

2) One of the joys of being a "marching band that doesn't march" is that we REALLY don't care about keeping our formations "tight." As such, if you're NOT one of those aforementioned big padded football players, do NOT rush the field while we're performing, because we will not hesitate to tackle your drunken ass. And most of us are carrying inexpensive musical instruments that can easily be turned into a club. Oh, and we're probably drunker than you are, so our judgement isn't go to be so hot.

3) On the other hand, it IS fun to mess with bands that WON'T break ranks. I remember one Big Game in which someone snuck a radio-controlled car onto the field during Cal's halftime show... a radio controlled car spewing cardinal-and-white smoke. Now, that car would've lasted precisely 1.2 seconds during a Stanford/Harvard/Yale/Rice halftime before being violently reduced to its component parts. But the Cal band just kept marching past it, refusing to break step. Silly weenies.
