Josh is an old-school Farker (and a two-digit Fark number is VERY old school). This is a really cool project and I like supporting Farkers when we're able.

Cool beans man, I'm on it.

2011-11-02 06:34:01 PM
Old school, indeed.

Hey folks! I'm the fella launching the Kickstarter (oooooh, marvel at my number!). ;-)

Any help the always awesome Fark community can provide for the game is much appreciated.

I don't play RPGs very much, but I kicked in a little to help a fellow farker get ahead.

little suggestion, change 'Issaquah' to 'Forks', and 'Quantum' to 'Twilight'.

oh, and put something about 'the cloud' somewhere in there to make it sound more computery.

/best of success with this.

I think I just threw up a little. Yup, I sure did.

Does this game feature any arabs? I refuse to support arabs.

/goddamn arabs
//and the arabs! don't get me started on the arabs.

I didn't see... what platforms will be supported?

Cyberpunk: Tabletop. ;-)

Ah, I thought this was a video game... probably should include that info here, that it's a dice and paper game.

2011-11-02 08:02:36 PM
Bring it out and I'll buy it. That's the best I can do right now.

2011-11-02 08:04:06 PM
A what campaign?

2011-11-02 08:53:17 PM
Are you using thegamecrafter.com at all for prototyping? They do good stuff...even to sell your stuff POD if you don't want to have upfront costs.

Looks like you are well on your way tho to getting to your KS goal... congrats.

never was in to role playing games, so I'm not gonna donate. Good luck though!

2011-11-02 08:57:46 PM
I'll kick in, but I have never played a pen and paper RPG before, so someone's going to have to explain the concept to me or something.

2011-11-02 09:06:25 PM
Looks like you guys are going to hit the $25K mark at this rate, maybe $30K+ mark.

I don't understand this gaming stuff but hey, right on anyhow!

2011-11-02 09:20:59 PM
Might just have to get the dice out of the attic.

I'm the same way... have never been a gamer.

Cyberpunk: I read the whole piece and it was very interesting, also a very good presentation on your part.

Good luck

I, too, was confused.
Even reading the write-up a second time, it's easy to think it's a videogame RPG project.
It should definitely be made explicit. Odds are, some funders may not be happy.

The description claims old-school, and yet the art screams WOW.

I hope you do well. The game industry is up there with the sea on the "harsh mistresses" list.

Pff. Wake me when a 1-digit Fark number owner starts something.

Ok, question: if I contribute some moulah, what's the chance that I can get in on some of the profit sharing? I'll be your Angel if there's something in it for me...

God, I hate it when they put javascript where a simple anchor tag will suffice. I'm not disabling my NoScript just to read a FAQ. :-(

Ah, I thought this was a video game... probably should include that info here, that it's a dice and paper game.

It's in the FAQ (finally figured out which domain to tell NoScript to allow).

I've been out of tabletop gaming for many MANY years. I have no idea how much popularity there is in it these days. I suspect a video game would have broader appeal, but would probably be harder to start up. However, starting as a tabletop might give you enough capital to expand into the video game market. The concept is pretty neat, I'll say that much.

You couldn't tell from the list of donation levels?
Apprentice Level: All previous perks and a free copy of the Quantum Roleplaying Game PDF one week **before** the game's official release.
Journeyman Level: All previous perks and a free copy of a limited edition, signed and numbered Quantum Roleplaying Game hardcover. These limited edition, signed and numbered hardcover books will never be sold in stores. All U.S.A addresses please add $7 for shipping-international addresses, please add $12 for shipping.

Did you think they were distributing the source code on PDF/paper so people could manually type it in to their IDEs and then compile it?

Subby: Are you interested in a PC version? I'm nearly done with a generic system for making browser-based RPGs out of tabletop games, and I bet we could work together. If you're interested, hit me up here or via email.

That's when I finally figured it out.

It may not be immediately obvious when reading the description, but it becomes obvious quickly enough. and if anyone gives money to the project without reading the whole description then they're dumb and deserve to be kicked in the penis.

I'd love to see what you're underlying system is and how it works, but obviously I won't get to till production hits so I may just have to donate.

I DM a weekly group and play in a weekly group and the basic mechanics are the most important piece. Any good game or DM should be able to reweave the fluff around good mechanics and run with it. I'm wishing you the best of luck and I look forward to see what you guys have put together!

Pay no attention to the VG crowd, they wouldn't know a REAL game if one came up and smacked them across the back of their head with a flail...

Game looks good! Kinda Amethyst, kinda Iron Kingdoms. Would contribute if I could, but I'm always broke. If you get it off the ground though you'll have some support out in Lubbock, TX.

Best of luck to you sir!

It would markedly be unlike farkers to help fund a project headed by someone that majored in creative writing.

FTFA: Josh started writing in junior high school, majored in Creative Writing

As long as there are tabletop gamers here, can anyone recommend a good resource for people interested in playing D&D, etc online? IRC and the like, I suppose?

I miss pen and paper but it's hard to find a game in Tokyo.

My favorites were the Bytes Brothers books, where a couple of Hardy Boys with an old clunker write BASIC programs to determine that 9 inch deep footprints in the snow are 3 times deeper than 3 inch deep footprints in the snow.

A general overview of the game mechanics, and some concrete sense of the design goals, would speak to me more strongly than what you've provided. The setting looks neat, but setting is the easy part.

I know you don't want to give away your engine, but a little to whet the appetite would be nice.

I t hought it was a video game until I started reading the rewards for backing and got to "hardcover copy of Quantum..."

Who refers to P&P rulesets as an Engine anyway?

How about suggesting a TLDR; / ADHD / elevator pitch version?
All I got from that wall of text until I lost interest was that some nerd called Josh wants 13000 dollars.
