Most fraudsters operate by taking advantage of jackasses. It makes it easier to defraud people if they can't or won't go to the police to report you.

It doesn't matter in the slightest. I've spent hours trying to explain to people about how things like gold actually work, and they never believe it. They continue insisting that gold will never lose its value. Even my grandfather, who has a fair amount of experience with gold won't acknowledge that gold will ever drop down. (and he has seen it shoot up and drop down in smaller versions of what is happening now - we were both prospecting in Alaska for a few summers.)

They'll continue to buy, they'll continue to be incredibly ignorant of the actual workings of the economy, and they'll end up losing thousands of dollars.

If talk show hosts ever had credibility, it usually was good for selling at least a halfway decent endorsement. I guess I did not follow up on all of them, but it seems like 15 years ago they had a lot more credibility.
