The sooner the overhyped Deschanel sister's slide back into obscurity is complete, the better.

Of course, then we'll have a new hipster darling to deal with, so nothing will have really changed.

Don't drag Emily into this, she's on the decidedly unhipstery Bones, and she's lovely.

the who?

Last night's episode didn't do them any favors. Really? You're going with the seeing the other roommate naked trope?

.... try harder you putzes. You've got a talented pixie like Zooey and you're gonna waste it on worn out retread sitcom situations? It's a laugh track free zone, you don't need cheap theatrics to make a story work!

Oh, yeah. Katy Perry's new show, right?

Wait, how can you describe someone as a "pixie" and then complain about retreads of sitcom tropes. Her character (yes, there's only one) is literally a sitcom trope itself.

Let's take a poll right now. Zooey or Emily. Who's funnier? (I say Emily.)

The Wacky quirky girl trope is a character that can be developed over a series of episodes through back story, or her interactions with the new crew she's now living with. Her story is never (or should never) be static.

Seeing the roommate naked is a one-dimensional story that has only had one very clear resolution - restoring the balance and letting the other roommate see you naked. Nothing new is learned here because the reaction is embarrassment between two parties, and there was absolutely nothing at stake for Zooey or what's his face's character. If they had amped up the drama even a little bit by having the dude demand she move out, that would at least be an expansion on the theme.

Tropes exist and work in fiction if you know how to use them properly. They're tools. I forget who said it, but it's said there are only two stories ever written, "A Stranger comes to town," or "The Hero sets off." It's how you explore the themes and stories that eventually arise out of the story that's important.

New Girl is just lazy writing, or suffers from the Hollywooditis of demanding everything be written by committee.

The pilot was hilarious. Damon Wayans Jr. couldn't stop yelling at women.
Then they got a new TBD. or BBD if that's your bag, dude.

I haven't seen The New Girl is the whole show based on her being a Manic Pixie Dream Girl?

Damon Wayans Jr. is on that Elisha Cuthbert abortion of a show "Happy Endings"

but I guess they share ONE major thing in common...

having an abortion in common with Elisha Cuthbert isn't the worst thing that might happen to me.

I would think if there was anyone to blame for this waste it would be the producer. They're bankrolling this.

You should be withdrawing your snark referring to "Happy Endings" as a bad show. Clearly you didn't see their Halloween episode.

Little-known fact: The New Girl is filmed in front of a live audience. Just no one ever laughs.

The reason Damon Wayans was replaced on the New Girl was because Happy Endings got renewed. Everyone thought that show was dead, so Wayans took a new job. Then, when Happy Endings was renewed, Wayans had to leave New Girl because of his contract with Happy Endings. Not the producer's fault.

I've watched New Girl, and it has gotten lamer. Last night's episode was pretty sucky. Hopefully it will get better, or not, I'm starting not to care anymore.

Eh, it'll be back up once they have some shows in a row. Dropping it for a month in favor of X Factor shows was a horrible misstepp by Fox.

I watched last night. Painfully unfunny. An average episode of Bones is funnier, and that's just the part at the beginning where they find the gory remains.

Gosh, can't imagine why ratings went down!

///never plan to

I've never felt so sorry for a show in my life. It's trying 400% more than it should to be off beat. Zooey's character is a career wrecker if it goes on my longer.

I think that's the fox business model

premiere a show, then garner interest, then stop show, to finally resurrect the show for a couple of moths before burying it in the backlot

Isn't it just "Friends" updated to be edgy by having a gay and black character on it and relocating the show to Chicago?

HOLY CRAP, I am with you.
The farking writers on that show have never had friends, so they don't know how to write for some.

2011-11-03 01:20:48 AM
This show stinks of Hollywood "formula" and I guarantee it was pitched like this to Fox:
"'Big Bang Theory' is a huge hit, right? How about 'Big Bang Theory' ... in reverse! Instead of one hot girl and four geeky guys, we'll have three hot guys and one geeky girl! Males 18 - 35 won't watch a show with three hot guys? How about if the geeky girl is Zooey Deschanel? Huh? Yeah! She's geeky and hot! Her Q score kills and she's looking for a steady paycheck right now. Who cares who the three guys are? We can get them cheap."

Yes, the same as in every movie she's in. Her personality is like Kristin Stewart's face.

I feel that I am a true conservative in the sense that when I am deciding on a course of action the proper question is Why? Some people will ask Why Not?, but I ask Why? After watching the first two episodes of The New Girl I asked myself "Why should I continue with this show?" After a long, awkward silence, I delete the season pass from my TiVo.

I would like to have sex with Zooey Deschanel*. However, having experienced her acting and music, I have no interest in either.

*Not that that makes her different than any other reasonably attractive girl.
