Huh, and I thought Hagrid carried Harry because Hagrid is big enough to do so. Let me ponder this new meaning...nah, too contrived. Thanks though.

Why? Fark you. That's why.

I didn't think about the bookend effect with Hagrid, that part was a neat little parcel to learn.

However, I'm still not buying the BluRay to see the full interview. I am sure I'll find a transcript or bootleg somewhere...(and I'll buy the DVD, which apparently is going to be gimped on goodies in favor of BR, which pisses me off).

Better not wait too long as they won't sell new HP discs after Dec. 31st.

I still think the final book would have been better if Harry had died in the end.

I don't think it needs a boost. Just saying.

How lame is that 8-disc set? I guess we won't get a full set with bonus materials until Christmas 2012. I haven't bought any discs because I thought I would save money for the Patronus edition or whatever they decide to call the super box. Guess if I want to watch them anytime soon, renting is the only option.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many of my SF&F reading freinds will snap up the latest post-humous volume of that awful "Wheel of Time" series (what is it up to now 20? 30? books) but then rage RAGE about how long it's taking Martin to finish Song of Fire and Ice

WoT would have made an awesome 5 book series. Then go back and write some books on the side stories, as opposed to wasting main arc space on secondary characters. Also Perrin should die in book 3. I'm thinking Song of Fire and Ice is headed for the same way. At least Feast for Crows came pretagged as "secondary characters" only.

Why is it always "out of spite" with her? It makes me picture her with a smug look of satisfaction on her face for every little action in life.

I think she made the final battle practically a non-event in the book out of spite.

Yes, you do and your last Snape/Harry adult slashfic tale was just ridiculous. You can't convince me wizards would really use their wands like that. It's anatomically impossible and quite disgusting. I shan't even mention the poor griffins.

Robert Jordan could have easily finished that series before he died if he had just condensed some material. The pace in books 1-4 was slowish but worthwhile. Every book after that is just ~800 pages of walking around waiting for an army to invade somewhere. Its basically like watching a long drawn out game of chess. That series should have been 9 books tops.

I must say, not enough doggie-style in book 3. However all the necromancy could lead to interesting avenues... and rendesvous, if you catch my meaning.

Seriously, those books are beyond slow. Book 12 was especially bad.

So the rape isn't enough, we need necrophilia too? How about Danny and her dragon slashfic?

So the reviews for Wheel of Time are about half and half, but FARK tends to be a good measuring stick for scifi/fantasy.

Are they worth the read?

The first few are. Just don't get too attached to the female characters. Turns out Jordan just begins to use them for his own slave, submissive, spanking fantasies.

I will say something about the HP movies: they were brilliantly cast overall. Casting a child who will continue to be able to pull it off as an adult is very very difficult.

To make things even better, several of the cast grew into very attractive adults. that's a real crapshot with child actors as well.

To be honest though, I think their success is due in part to the magnificent older cast members, who were the perfect mentors to the younger cast. You couldn't have picked a better bunch of people to teach you how to be a proper British actor then the adult cast of the HP films.

Yeah, there in the middle films, it didn't look like Rupert Grint was going to make it.

For the most part these long fantasy epics are more about quantity than quality. The fact that WoT wasn't any good (as far as I know, I could only get through the first two books before dropping them) doesn't matter because there are a lot of them and they came out at a decent enough clip to keep people reading. People seem to like the Malazan series for the same reasons. Martin is a better writer than either of them but hasn't produced enough volume to keep fans constantly entertained.

I got hooked on Martin's Sci-fi a while back when he was only known for Wild cards I particularly loved the novel Dying of the Light If anybody needs a Martin fix while waiting for the next SOFI installment, hunt that book down.

Died in book 1................ book 1..................... not dead...............book 2.....................and book 3.

Nobody important died in books 4 or 5 that has remained dead. Which is why it's hard to take the deaths at the end of Dance seriously.
