I know that American companies in Russia keep two sets of books. The public one, and the internal one that has all the bribes in the ledger.

Worked at a freight forwarding company for a bit, they always told the customers sending stuff to Latin America "and you'll need cash to get it out of customs."

/if you're not dealing with a Scandinavian firm, figure you'll need some $¥€ to make it go easy

My uncle owns a company in China. I should ask him someday how much he has to spend on bribes some day.

An R8 expedites the issuance of the business license/contract/whatever. Otherwise, waiting time is 8-10... weeks, months, years... whatever. Depends on the supervisor's mood.

Of course. The power is in the government and the governments are corrupt - but people want to go after the companies instead of reducing the power of government and closing the bribes and loopholes.
