Well, of course. The attorneys are revenue-generating elements of the company, while payments for lost suits are straight-up losses. What's the logic in having, say, Goodyear shut down their tire-making machines just to pay awards from a suit? No, they keep them on, generate the revenue, and then pay.

Ok, now, doesn't the fact that what I just typed is actually logical when applied to the way that patents are used today verge on tragic and completely farcical?

This doesn't surprise me that Righthaven is going insane trying to make money. Why? They lost the contract with their biggest client that hired them to do this shiat.. I work for one of the companies in the article. There's lots of accusations that came to light about former writer's stealing from the Post and other MNG owned papers-nothing secret there. So here came this blanket policy to go after everyone and anyone for cutting and pasting via contractor. MNG and DP then said "This chump we hired exactly to do this guy isn't working out for us."

Dean is only partly in charge now. But MNG has created this "BANG" Bay Area News Group paper and consolidated half of the north and east bay papers into two, now three with a couple mastheads and laid off 200 people that werent in sales or management as part of a "digital multi-platform" bullshiat that means a lot of designers, press, pre-press and writers are out of work this month. They are bleeding people and money to "streamline further into this new age with all your hard work" Whatever it is, is anyone's guess. But we all know we're out of a job soon, no matter how hard we try to keep them.
