Jamdug!: You can take the boy out of the trailer park...

He drove out on his own

/and drove himself right back in, too

So, did they actually bust him with meth at some point? That article isn't the best for someone new to this story.

basemetal: So, did they actually bust him with meth at some point? That article isn't the best for someone new to this story.

He was basically kicked out of NASCAR because they said he failed drug tests for meth (he denied it). He sued NASCAR (and lost) trying to be re-instated.

He's like Tim Richmond without the talent, hookers, and aids.

If memory serves, up until now he was never busted with anything just with meth in his system.

The whole Mayfield thing truly is a trailer park soap opera. Here's a primer (pops).

You really have to let the Googles do the walking to get the full story, though.

There isn't a law that says you can't have 50 guns in your home. So why report on something like that? What if he had 50 TV's in there, did that need to be in the article too?

If you have 50 guns in your house, there's a good chance you're either a collector or a nutjob. When the 50 guns are found with meth and $100k of stolen goods, there's a good chance you're on the nutjob side of things.

Since the guns are therefore solid evidence that a famous racecar driver is, in fact, actually a nutjob, it makes said guns newsworthy.

That. And the fact they look more of the collector or hunting variety, not of the OMG it's BLACK with a removable magazine!! variety.

I know lots of people (let me clarify that with more like 3 or 4 people) that have 50 or more guns in their house, and they are neither collectors or nut jobs. Just because someone likes something you don't doesn't make them a nut job, sir.

Having 50 of anything would constitute a "collection" in my mind. They don't have to be valuable/collectors items/antiques.

Since you have 50 guns (and presumably don't also have them stashed with meth and $100K of stolen goods), I would put you firmly in the "collector" category. And of course if you like them, then you have every right to own them.

Well, methinks his chances of ever getting back into NASCAR, or any kind of motorsport, just went up in smoke. The corpse of Tim Richmond has a better chance of getting back in NASCAR than Mayfield does.

I am probably the last person on earth to switch sides on this issue, but up until now I honestly believed that he wasn't a drug addict and had been set up by his own mother. I feel stupid now though. He was a meth user the whole time.

Oh well, it isn't like I loaned him money or anything...

If you have 50 guns or 50 cats or 50 snakes in your house when you get arrested it makes the news.

So, 50 cats who shot 50 snakes with their 50 guns would get you a network deal?

That almost made me like the guy. He was always a jackass.

I was afraid that he was falsely accused. He wasn't.

Not many of the drivers, crew members, owners who have failed' has been falsely accused.

OK, we're both on the Short Bus to Speshul Hell: You for posting that, me for laughing at that :D

(Probably also showing my age here :D)

That said...yeeeeeeeah, I think this right here is hard and conclusive proof that, well, he wasn't exactly framed by NASCAR on the whole "meth in the system" thing...

No.

Every one of those is a hunting gun. If they were AR's and handgun's you might have a point.

/actually, you still wouldn't.

Nobody needs 50 guns for hunting. If you have that many, you're either collecting them because you like hunting guns. Or you're a nutjob. My point stands.

Agreed, but Hmiel won't be driving for anyone, ever again...as for Scott Bloomquist, I don't know enough to comment. I've read the story, but don't know how true/false it is.

Bloomquist has been pretty open about the whole thing the few times he's commented.

I know a couple of people that were there when Hmeil was injured. He's VERY lucky to be alive.

Sprint Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield suspended indefinitely after failing two drug tests. NASCAR won't say what substance he tested positive for, but considering his record it's safe to say it wasn't speed (new window)

On the other hand....

That was my headline!
