Modern (expensive, sometimes tasty) food trucks at these kinds of things are not the construction site roach coaches of yesteryear.

I like how they tell you all the restaurants nearby...

I'm in downtown Portlamd and some of the food trucks here would put gourmet restaurants to shame with their quality and deliciousness. I work from home 3 or 4 days a week so I get some amazing Thai/Mexican/whatever else is in walking distance. Cities that don't allow food trucks don't know what their missing. I used to live in downtown Raleigh and the local restaurants are lobbying hard against food trucks. If you have heat/ac & bathrooms and can't compete your product must suck and you have a farked up business model.

/of course some of the trucks suck. But I haven't gotten sick yet.

There are few Mexican places that can compete with the Portland Taco Truck scene.

Oh, and Potato Champion is pretty awesome too.

Shhhh. Don't reveal the awesomeness that is TacoBus. Then everyone will want it. The lines are long enough there already.

Food trucks ain't what they used to be.

LA/OC in Southern California has more of these trucks than you can shake a stick at. They show up at bars in the evening, and in groups during lunch. The food can be pricey, but it's almost always better than comparably priced fast food, and always more interesting.

I feel sorry for those of you in areas that don't have them.

We been having quite a few events lie this recently in Palm Beach County. The cool thing is that the events have been attracting trucks from as far south as Miami so there's an incredible range of tastes available.

I love the contemporary food trucks. When being out in Austin I had the most delicious kimchi fries. They were delicious and I am major, major
fussy about food.

In San Antonio, there is one that has fries done in duck fat. I really want to try those.

When out I often fire up a mobile eat app (Eat St I think its called) that pings out food truck locations. There are a few that don't update their GPS as often as I'd like...some ping constantly and you can watch them move on the map down the freeway to their next spot. Some camp out near bars or festivities for most of the evening.

As mentioned above these are not ye olde roach coaches. They are built custom; and here are often operated by traditional restaurants with variations or mobile versions of the menu. I think its a great idea for a restaurant to expand their reach.

And that.

The Food Truck Bazaar in Orlando has a pretty good following. It's like a rock concert at the monthly stops, and the Brisket Bus dishes out some of the best sammiches you'll ever have.

Last time I ate food from the roach coach, I found one. In my food. Dead. Never again.

Try a different food truck. You wouldn't give up on all brick-and-mortar restaurants after a bad experience at one restaurant, would you?

I went to a caravan where there were several trucks lined up so I gave several a try. Ten bucks for fries with bleu cheese dressing and some disgusting chili oil. Five bucks for one "asian" street taco made with chicken doused in peanut oil. Eight bucks for a gumbo you could practically see through. The only good bite was from a burger truck selling sliders for a buck a pop.

Dispite having to stand in line with a bunch of hipsters so I could pay too much for crap food, at least I was able to eat standing up, with no place to put my drink and had to walk half a block to find a trash can.

Gave it one more try the other day and had similar crap food passed off as "gourmet". Never again.

/ hipsters suck more than disco did

I first read that headline as FORD Truck Fiesta, and was really confused. You know, with the Fiesta being a small deathtrap of a car and all.

still thawing out after nearly 4 days of no power and freezing temperatures.

/god bless electricity

that's why they were buying food from a truck.
