Or they were playing poker. Not enough information.

2011-11-02 03:23:53 PM
They shoul've recorded the pursuit and put it on you-tube with yakety-sax music.

2011-11-02 03:24:35 PM
So he wasn't a peeping tom, he was a taxpayer attending an open door council meeting.

What a twist!

an alleged peeper was lurking in the trees. The unknown man was spotted by a woman in the house who spooked him away.

The term "illegal meeting" is incorrect.

If they were discussing town business and making decisions it would be, but if they were talking about politics in general then not so much.

And of course they would never lie about the nature of the meeting, because there's clearly no reason for them to.

Maybe they're telling the truth and maybe they aren't, but unlike the people, government doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Were they having an orgy? If not, I fail to see how it would be interesting enough to draw the attention of a peeper. I'm guessing they got caught with their pants down in more of a figurative sense.

2011-11-02 03:38:31 PM
Maybe they were recording a porn film to increase the town's revenue.

And how likely is it that in a meeting of the town council no town business came up? When politicians give answers like that I find it more insulting than simply refusing to answer. The latter is dishonest and illegal, the former implies that they think people are mind-numbingly stupid.

So was the first guy to do this named Tom?

Uh yeah, exactly. I want to know what kind of city "councils" they have in North Carolina.

Headso: So was the first guy to do this named Tom?

The name comes from the legend of Lady Godiva's naked ride through the streets of Coventry, in order to persuade her husband to alleviate the harsh taxes on the town's poor. The story goes that the townsfolk agreed not to observe Godiva as she passed by, but that Peeping Tom broke that trust and spied on her

Yeah, I call bullshiat on their explanation. They were talking town politics.

The appearance of impropriety is all it takes to destroy what little faith your constituents may have in you.

Tom was his name, he was a tailor by trade. Bore a hole to peep through. Except this Tom was on the inside while his 'victim' was on the outside parading about naked.

So from what I read either they violated the Sunshine law OR they were committing election fraud under suspicion of election rigging as both candidates were there.

2011-11-02 03:54:47 PM
And if Tom has a good lawyer, this could make for some fun court time. How did Tom happen to pick this house to peek into? Was he just wandering around, looking into every house, or did he have advance notice to go to this particular house on the night in question? Why doesn't the article name the alleged peeper? This definitely does not pass the smell test.

FTFY.

It may or may not have been illegal. But the fact that this is even being questioned brings up ethical issues regarding the appearance of impropriety.

Ran into this last year, the Republican majority on my board, the board of finance, each totally independent of each other decided to show up at a selectman's meeting and talk on a subject not on the agenda. Three of them had never been to a selectman's meeting before but by some random chance decided to show up and talk about an issue before the board of finance. I filed a complaint with he secretary of state but as the Republicans swore that this was purely a coincident it went no where.

Up for reelection on Tuesday bet I made a lot of friends

I'm pretty sure my city can't have more than 3 city council members get together at anytime for anything, unless it is official business that has been advertised. It sounds stupid but it eliminates any kind of perceived back door dealing.

Was it a pervert beating his meat? Or was it someone concerned that the town council might be breaking laws...

And the idea that 5 people who work together can get together and discuss anything or everything but work is laughable.

Most boring peep show evar.

Councilman Robert Allen said the whole story is a "non-story" and didn't want to get involved in petty politics.

A city council member in a small North Carolina town doesn't want to be involved in "petty politics".

Laughter OL

In other news, we're not having secret meetings, there's nothing to see here, the entire city council is exchanging barbecue recipes. Move along, citizen. I am above this petty mudslinging, and you can tell because I just said that I was above petty mudslinging, unlike my opponent, who, having said nothing about this, and who wasn't even there, most certainly lacks the direct approach I've just used with regards to being against mud-slinging and petty political mumbo-jumbo like that. I'm just better than he is, I suppose.

Yes, Engineers claim Tom as their own.

I'm not a lawyer, but I would assume "majority" = quorum, and any time they have a quorum present, that would constitute a meeting and thus come under Sunshine. I don't see any way you can have a quorum of a legislative body present somewhere and have that NOT be a meeting, even if they were all drinking at a bar.
