If he knows the dog's actions were within the normal bounds of dog behavior and yet still wants it put down, I'm guessing he never really liked her dog in the first place and that there is much more to the story.

Honestly, the dog was doing what he'd been bred for - his owner feared the "intruder", so the dog grabbed him by the arm and held on to protect the woman. It doesn't make a difference what breed the dog is - I've had a Yorkshire terrier that reacted in much the same way when my house was broken into, except he chomped down on the intruder's crotch. I had a Chihuahua that if my brother acted aggressively towards me, the dog would go on the defensive. When my brother complained about that dog, our dad's reaction was "Well, then you know to leave your little sister alone".

Ever since they were first domesticated, a dog's duty has been to protect their people.

I recdently acquired an American Bulldog. She's 4 months old and is the biggest sweetheart of a dog that I have ever known.

We took her to our annual trunk or treat that our car club puts on...one of the people parked next to us was in a very elaborate witch costume - long nose, long chin, full green skin, warts....the works. The puppy didn't know what to think of her. She wouldn't get within 5 feet of her, and wouldn't take her eyes off of her. Ears perked up, tail would go from wagging, to between the legs, to wagginga gain. Later on in the show, when she noticed the witch again, she put out a little bark at her. The witch just playfully barked back and the dog tucked tail and ran. She damned near took me with her as i was holding on the leash.

Was quite amusing.

My great grandfather trained German Shepherds for the police way back early 1900s. One of the commands was a guard command, that the dog would only release from when the same person gave him the release command. Once, when my grandfather was a kid, and mad that my great grandfather was going to take his brothers fishing, he ordered the dogs to guard the fishing poles and ran away outside. My great grandfather had to go track him down to get my grandfather to release the dog, even though my great grandfather was it's trainer in the first place.

You can't blame a dog for doing what it's been taught to do.
