Sorry, that doesn't fit the 'dirty hippie' line that our conservative friends cast. Please restate your opinion.

Yeah, play that tape in court and that reporter will then file a civil rights suit against the PoPo.

2011-11-01 08:56:35 PM
Now that they have started busting the reporters, perhaps the reporters will stop repeating the "dirty hippies who hate capitalism" line and start actually reporting what's going on.

Doubtful, but it could happen.

can't they put him in jail just for having a video camera anywhere near a police officer?

I don't think the low level journalists and reporters are the ones killing the stories of abuse. I think that's coming from much higher up the food chain. we already know Fox news blatantly edits news they find objectionable. stands to reason other news networks do something similar.

Good job, cops. Turn the media against you. That always works wonders.

make me some tea: Good job, cops. Turn the media against you. That always works wonders.

like I said - I think the rank and file journalists just want to cover the story (ok MOST do, some want to spin it various ways). what's interesting is the way the news networks selectively report on the OWS movement. mostly - they don't report on it at all. And that's fairly uniform too, which is really weird.

Overzealous police officer state.

I haven't watched any network news, so I haven't noticed.

NPR has been doing a segment on it pretty much every weekday for a few weeks now.

Even here in lefty libtard Seattle, when OWS gets any press at all, it's pretty distorted.

I agree with you that it's the corporate mucky-mucks, not the schlepps, who are killing and/or spinning the story, but I think that could change. When the local editors start seeing people they know-their drinking buddies and such- getting clubbed and pepper sprayed and jailed just for trying to do their jobs, then the editors' opinions will tend to shift.

It's not going to change the minds of Murdoch or of Brian Roberts or any of those people, but it might have an effect on the daily newspapers and local TV.

2011-11-01 10:00:15 PM
The reporter will now also face a charges of "embarrassing a police officer" and "being a damn nuisance".

Because there's no such thing as the liberal media, not when it comes to print or TV.

What can I say, I know Tennessee Republicans.

Gotta say a few things about this. I'm a libby libby libster. I kinda support OWS, but I would like a focus on money in politics, rather than simply money against money. For me the problem is influence not income. And I lived in nashville for 8
years, which has nothing to do with this thread.

Bottom line: shaky camera is shaky. Makes things seem scarier than they were. If there was a possibility this guy got roughed up unnecessarily, the cop smashes his camera. He doesn't put it back in his pocket.

Is there anything you can't find a conspiracy in? There is a story on OWS every day. Sorry it's not the only story in the world, maybe you should go tell Gaza to stop firing rockets at Israel, kind of a bigger story when Israel readies the ground troupes.

Three Crooked Squirrels: For me the problem is influence not income

This I agree with. Its not so much the yachts and mansions that bother me, its increasing shift in laws designed to lower upward mobility and lock in the rich in their position. When the nation was capable of agreeing (and by nation, I mean lawmakers) on passing a TARP, but people fought tooth and nail against regulating, I would have though the problem would be obvious. I remember hearing right and left wing economists, both of which said the same thing 'if you are going to bail them out with taxpayer money, you have to assert some control over them with it, as you are at the very least renting them. You can't teach them the lesson that they should take risks of that nature and that it won't cost them anything'

Arguments of malicious greed aside, when money equals power and influence, and the one thing all wealthy share is an interest in money, you are going to see the power and influenced used on the government in a profitable way. Ignoring ethics altogether, I don't see how anyone in their right mind wouldn't see this as a problem.

Pfft, hippies shouldn't even be allowed to have newspapers. Freaking hypocrites out there making money by reporting, being part of the capitalist system, instead of doing nothing but protesting. Thats as disgusting as that Michael Moore fellow, I tell ya.

jaylectricity: Ah yes, Tennesse State Troopers. They are about as dumb as it comes. I know from first hand experience.

From all the scandals coming out of these assaults on the Occupiers, it sounds like the nation's police forces are competing for the honor.

You mean that maybe, just maybe, the kind of people who tend to be attracted to police work aren't paragons of virtue and intellect for us all to emulate? You think that people who get paid to do what thugs do might just be . . . a bunch of thugs?

Next thing you know you'll be telling me that American soldiers don't crap gold doubloons.

Nah, not really hard. Hate the pigs first.

Treason? They'd have to be guilty of it before they could be executed for it. They're following the rules our founding fathers set up. They are not trying to do harm to our country. They haven't betrayed our country to another one. I think you're way the fark out in left field on that one.

People wonder why when a cop gets shot the reaction is shrugged shoulders or something equally concerned? It is because the police are the largest street gang in the country. I don't cry at all when Zetas members get shot either.

2011-11-02 12:31:14 AM
Cops are not your friends. Never trust them; never talk to them. They are there to find and prosecute crime. If there's no crime they need to make their numbers look good somehow. "Am I being detained? Then I'll be on my way. Take care sir/ma'am."

Where I grew up there are at least two cops (out of probably about 30) that are old d-bag jocks from my years in high school. The really pitiful ones that picked on the smallest, weakest freshmen all five years they were there. They get paid to bully people now, which is far more than I figured they would ever achieve.

If they're anything like Wisconsin State Troopers, all they do basically is a) sit at speedtraps on the highway and jack people up for not having a light above their license plate and b) act as goon squads for politicians because sometimes the local PD's tell them to go get farked.

So what happened to the folks whose names he was asking for?

Anyway, the guy obviously had it coming. Stepping backwards from a police officer is basically the same as resisting arrest. The correct procedure, when a police officer approaches you, is to get on your knees with your hands behind your back, just in case you've done something wrong and need to be punished.

You may think you're innocent, but if you're so innocent, why is a police officer walking towards you? Do the right thing and surrender to their better judgement. Stop, drop, and roll.
