Adding alt text for completeness: On the other hand, physicists like to say physics is to math as sex is to masturbation.

Ahh yes. You can't forget the mouse over text when posting an XKCD comic. Good save.

On the other hand, nothing you think is related to Fibonacci is related to Fibonacci.

I was told there would be no math.

If you haven't seen it already, give this video, Nature By Numbers (new window) a try. I think you'll enjoy it.

For some reason I always laugh at the wobbling octopus. I mean, other than the fact that the illustration is funny.

You, sir, win 1 Internet. Bronyaur1 gets the assist.

On a slightly more nerdy note, I remember for 2 weeks in my Form and Analysis Music Theory class we studied Fibonacci sequences and how they "naturally" occur in a lot of music.

Why would there be a conspiracy? Fibonacci was inspired by rabbits breeding.

Pfft, number theory is communist drivel! Relying on math is fair market hogwash! The FREE market is decided by the people!
/sarcasm

Also, question:
We just started learning set theory and number theory in math (matrices and venn diagrams and whatnot). Wouldn't the end result of rabbits breeding be shown with a set tree? And couldn't that be solved by a simple factorial? How do you calculate factorial on an abacus?

/don't remember how to calculate a sequence; learned that in high school

Ehh, Fibonacci deserves most of his credit for being a vector of transmission...all of the math "accredited" to him was stuff he picked up in his travels, then introduced into Europe.

Obligatory bad math joke: What do you get when you cross a mosquito with a mountain climber? Answer: You can't cross a vector with a scalar.
