What kind of idiot hires a 21-year old boy to coach high school girls' sports of any sort? We recently had this exact story in Mass., except replace "track" with "soccer".

That said, good plea deal. This kid isn't dangerous, and he's never going to get to work around teenage girls again. There's no need to throw him in jail, since his life is already immeasurably farked up due to his felony conviction.
Should still be a negligent supervision and hiring suit against the school, though. Because that kind of idiocy needs a good slap.

And the really sad thing is the fact that the "minor" was probably the one initiating the flirting. The whole "gray area" with ages 12-21 kinda pisses me off in this country.

12 -17 -- violent murder -- You are an adult
17 under -- Sex with 18-21 -- You are a abused kid
12-17 -- Smoke a cig? You are a minor
12-20 -- Drink a beer? Yep, minor.
18-20 -- Kill people in foreign countries? You are an adult.
16-21 -- Want decent insurance prices? Nope you are just a kid.
16-21 -- Want to work as a commercial driver? Nope, just a kid.

I am sure there are many more examples. And because some 21 year old "kid" got put into a situation where responsible adults should not have put him in... he acted on his hormones and is farked over for pretty much the rest of his life unless he can convince some judge in the future to remove his felony. Good luck raising a family.. since you will never be allowed to take them anywhere or watch them do anything outside of your own home.

So? That's not a really sad thing at all. This guy was a coach, in position of authority. He's supposed to know the fark better, and send the girl to do another dozen laps if she's messing with him.
He's the only one at fault here. But nice try blaming the underage girl.

He should be farked, because he seriously farked up. He shouldn't be in jail, because he's not likely to reoffend, but he also shouldn't get off scott free, because he abused a position of authority and trust and knowingly broke a law that's supposed to protect against exactly that sort of abuse of authority.
And yeah, he can still raise a family. This shouldn't be news to anyone living in America, with our current drug war culture, but it's eminently possible to raise a family with a past felony conviction.

It should be noted, Kazrath, that other in that one sentence suggesting the girl was to blame, you never mention her at all. Your last paragraph makes it seem almost as if he engaged in a victimless crime.

Absolutely. As I said earlier, there should be a negligent hiring and supervision lawsuit against those idiots.

But that said, that doesn't absolve him of blame. They put him in proximity to a horny 15 year old... But no one took off his pants except him.

Kazrath: The whole "gray area" with ages 12-21 kinda pisses me off in this country.

I agree. The inconsistency extends to the "sex offenders list" too. Offenses in some states aren't equal offenses in other states, and the lists aren't federally maintained. Plus, in the USA they like to put everyone on the list forever. A murderer gets out and nobody except potential employers (or maybe landlords) know about it. A sex offender gets out and everyone knows about it forever.

I found out that in England, being on the list is not a lifetime thing, which is way more logical.

In Canada, the age of consent is 16, but there is a "peer group exception" as long as that person is no more than 5 years older or younger than you are, and aren't in a position of authority over you. I think in this case, Elisha is one year outside that range, and was in a position of authority. Still, the dude's 21. This is kinda iffy.

It's the position of authority part that's the bigger issue, I think.

In terms of iffiness with regard to the age of consent - no, I doubt the kid's a pedophile. He is, however, the type of person that will knowingly abuse a position of authority to fark someone. And I think future employers should get a chance to find that out.

Yeah, and maybe they should be. Frankly, this is the sort of guy I'd be concerned about getting a little too friendly with his daughter's high school friends. It's not that he's a pedophile, but that he's the type of guy that would use a position of authority to take advantage of a naive girl. Let someone else chaperone the party.

No one's going to put him in that position of authority again as long as they know about his prior conviction, which a listing in the Sex Offender Registry does a pretty good job of guaranteeing, so long as the person doing the hiring practices due diligence.

What you're basically saying then, is he's unlikely to reoffend because nobody else will LET him reoffend.

But if given the opportunity....

I read that as "prior to the cops catching them screwing in the car." He could've been already on the job in the previous incidents as well.
