Oh. I was expecting beards and black-ops.

Now I'm lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did.

SP: Why that album?

BW: Well, because I like the songs on it, you know?

LOL. Good one, Wilson. It's nice to see an artist not sucking up to an interviewer.

His response are rarely more than 7 or 8 words. If he can just say yes or no, that will do. I love this guy so much

Im surprised he never listened to Pacific Ocean Blue.

1) god damn that is a good album.

2) Its by his brother

3) He doesnt really seem to give off a "Im not sure I can handle that" kind of vibe. He seems surprised when the reviewer even informed him it was worth listening to.

SP: Over the years a lot of bootlegs were produced of SMiLE, did you ever listen to any of those?

BW: No, I never did. We never got a hold of any of them at all.

I had a couple versions....one was called "Fast Eddie's", and another was something like "Capitol Demo" or some such. mainly pretty similar. One had a song called "He Gives Speeches" (ostensibly about Murray) that was not on the other version. Interesting.

I also grabbed a bootleg called "Capitol Punishment", consisting mainly of studio chatter and alt versions.....I remember and extended argument between Brian and Murray. It was kinda sad. Murry was like, "brian, godammit, you're wasting my time! I know you can sing better!" You can hear Brian talking to his mothter, i think, about how dad was being a jerk. and then at one point Murray goes, "Brian, come on, lets go, I'm a genius too, quit wasting my time!"

thanks dad!

What did Brian think of Murray's new group the Sun-Rays?

SP: How involved were you in that process?

BW: Well, I was involved to the point where when my engineer would mix down like, say, five minutes of music, he would send me a CD and I would approve it or tell him what changes to make. Stuff like that.

Does anyone think that Brian is actually dictating what changes should be made and that the people who are putting it all together are following his orders?

I imagine Brian thinks that.

I remember Billy West in an interview (who used to play with him in the 80s) described Brian as an amateur human being. He said it with affection though like Brian was an alien ala Klaatu from The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Brian Wilson has a history of mental illness. That doesn't detract from his brilliance, but it does mean that the interviewer should account for it if he has any kind of skills. Why not listen to one where the interviewer actually knows what the fark he's doing and knows how to conduct an interview?

(hint: The password is "ron bennington". It's sort of an inside joke.)

We can expect that he's on some pretty powerful medication....and Brian Wilson restrained 60% by medication still has 450% more musical talent than any mere mortal.

Listen there, Mr obscure singer dude: we already have a famous Brian Wilson, playing baseball for the Giants. You might want to come up with an alias...

Poor Brian. He's a pretty fragile guy to begin with, and adding drugs obviously exacerbated that, but it's incredible how he was surrounded by the worst kind of support network possible. Between his father and Mike Love I'm surprised his follow-up to Pet Sounds wasn't Brian Wilson Presents a Double Murder with a Glockenspiel.

Add to that the 'doctor' who was by his side from most the 70s and into the 80s and that's some mighty find mind-farking, you got there, Lou.

And for all the farkers out there in favor of legalizing drugs?
Brian is an object lesson on just the kind of damage they can do.
If you think I'm wrong you know nothing of what happened to him.

"... that Brian claims to of never heard."

"of" ? wtf?

Do journalists even go to school anymore?

I really enjoyed Brian's last tour. The band was nanometer-tight. He was present and in the moment and singing his heart out too. I don't care if he was using his keyboard as a teleprompter or not. To get to see him alive and singing is like getting to see one of the natural wonders of the world.

When I listen to a demo track of "Still I Dream of It", it almost brings me to tears, to see the raw talent shining thru the debris of his broken life. When God touches a person with such awesome gifts, the person may not be able to contain the whole of it without cracking a bit.

Uh oh, J Edgar, somebody is smoking a reefer!

Easy champ, like Syd Barrett, Wilson was never on an even keel to begin with.

I can visualize the interviewer literally squirming every other minute.
